July 12 2012 The Alpine Cowboys held off the Santa Fe Fuego 12-11 in a high-scoring Pecos League game. Alpine finished with 18 hits and Santa Fe collected 13. The Cowboys built an 11-4 lead through four innings before the Fuego rallied with two runs in the fifth and seven more in the eighth.
Alpine struck for four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take control early. Santa Fe’s seventh-inning rally cut the deficit to one run but Alpine added the eventual winning run in the seventh. The Fuego’s seven-run eighth made it a one-run game again but Alpine held on in the ninth.
E. Herman led Alpine with four hits and three runs while B. Ives went 3-for-5 with three RBI. B. Bell added two hits two runs and two RBI. The Cowboys hit seven home runs with Ives Bell McDavid Menadier Marion and Herman contributing to the power display. Santa Fe was led by S. Palmer who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. J. Trejo C. Brown and J. Valle also homered for the Fuego.
Bryce Wiedman earned the win after allowing eight hits and four runs three earned over seven innings while striking out seven.
Alfredo Caballero recorded the save with 1 1/3 scoreless innings and two strikeouts. Santa Fe starter A. Machado took the loss after surrendering eight hits and nine earned runs in three innings.
