Tucson Scores 28 Runs in Rout of Alpine

June 4 2021 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Alpine Cowboys 28-3 at Kokernot Field, collecting 25 hits while limiting Alpine to 10. Tucson took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, added 11 runs in the third and broke the game open with six runs in the fifth. The Saguaros also scored twice in the sixth and five times in the eighth.

Kokko Figueiredo went 5-for-7 with four RBI and three runs for Tucson, while BJ Minarcin finished 5-for-7 with four runs. Nick Hamilton went 4-for-4 with four runs and three RBI, Gabe Wurtz added three hits and three RBI, and Rod Dobbs scored four runs with three RBI. Wurtz hit a home run, as did Dobbs and Hamilton. Leo Gallegos contributed two hits, including a double and triple.

Augie Martinez earned the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Pat Clare, Pete Violante and Blake Garrett combined to finish the game, with Garrett pitching a scoreless ninth. Jared Strait took the loss for Alpine after allowing 15 hits and 15 runs in 2.2 innings. Chris ONeal had three hits for Alpine, while Tylor Frailey drove in two runs and James Prockish added two hits and one RBI.
