The Wingnuts (60-38) led just 2-1 in the sixth, and Salina starter David Gates (1-2) hadn’t allowed a base hit since the first. Christian Stringer led off the frame with a single, and then scored when TJ Mittelstaedt chopped a double that resulted in a Salina (18-81) throwing error. Martin Medina grounded an RBI single to make it 4-1, then another throwing error on Brennen Salgado’s fielder’s choice grounder increased the Wingnuts edge to 5-1. Wesley Phillips dumped a run-scoring single into center, Leo Vargas drove home two more with a single of his own, and Brent Clevlen and Mittelstaedt each recorded doubles to cap off the frame.

Brown (4-5) allowed a run in the third on Cody Coffman’s RBI double, but settled down to retire 10 Stockade hitters in a row from the fourth through the sixth. Salina scratched across a run against him in the seventh to make it 11-2, but Brown limited the damage and notched his fourth straight start of at least seven innings pitched.

For the third straight game Wichita broke on top in the opening frame, grabbing a 2-0 lead on an RBI single from Clevlen and a run-scoring groundout from Medina. Clevlen finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Medina drove in two runs for the third consecutive game.

Austin Boyle and Seth Harvey closed out the victory with scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively. The Wingnuts and Stockade wrap up the regular season with the series finale on Monday at 2:00. Tyler Kane (11-1, 3.42) gets the start for Wichita, while Salina counters with fellow righty Josh Hodges (3-5, 4.95).
