7/3/2016-

An outstanding effort by Aaron Olivas led the White Sands Pupfish (20-28) to an 18-7 win over the Santa Fe Fuego (10-34) on Sunday at Fort Marcy Park.

Olivas racked up six RBIs on two hits for the White Sands Pupfish. He homered in the first inning.

Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed the White Sands Pupfish to easily put away the Santa Fe Fuego. An RBI single by Eric Kalbfliesh, a two-run single by Zac Johnson, an RBI single by Macyn Clifford, and a home run by Olivas in the first inning and a passed ball during the second inning fueled the White Sands Pupfishs offense early.

The Santa Fe Fuego were led by a flawless day at the dish by Eric Maria, who went 5-5 against the White Sands Pupfishs pitching. He singled in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings and doubled in the eighth inning.

Garret Alvarez got his first win for the White Sands Pupfish despite allowing six runs over four innings. He struck out five, walked two and surrendered 10 hits.

Thomas Zarewicz ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in one inning, walked none and struck out none.

The White Sands Pupfish pounded the Santa Fe Fuego pitching, as seven hitters combined for 17 hits, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
