Wednesday was a great day for Daniel Thorpe, as Thorpe threw a shutout to carry the Alpine Cowboys (24-17) to a 2-0 victory over the Las Cruces Vaqueros (11-30) at Kokernot Field.
Thorpe held the Las Cruces Vaqueros scoreless during his 8 1/3 innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out six.
Derrick Fox paced the Alpine Cowboys at the plate. Fox went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the eighth inning.
Steven Cazares was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Alpine Cowboys batters and allowing two runs.
Cazares (1-4) was the games losing pitcher.
