A great effort by Derrick Fox carried the Alpine Cowboys (8-2) to a 15-5 win over the White Sands Pupfish (7-3) on Friday at Kokernot Field.
Fox hit two home runs for the Alpine Cowboys. Fox went 4-5 in the game with five RBIs and three runs scored. Fox homered in the third and fifth innings.
The biggest inning for the Alpine Cowboys was the eighth. In the inning the Alpine Cowboys scored eight runs. The Alpine Cowboys scored in the eighth on an RBI double by Tim Henry, an RBI single by Fox, , a three-run double by Colby Gee, an RBI single by Shane Barley, and an RBI single by Yuta Okazaki.
The White Sands Pupfish had no answer for Steven Johnson, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The White Sands Pupfish managed just one hit off of Johnson, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his two innings of work.
Joe Borowski was hot from the plate for the White Sands Pupfish. Borowski went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the first and eighth innings.
Matt Coleman recorded his first win for the Alpine Cowboys even though he allowed five runs over six innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered 10 hits.
Gary Burns couldnt get it done on the mound for the White Sands Pupfish, taking a loss. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed no runs.
