Cowboys Bats Struggle In 10-2 Loss

6/5/2023-The Alpine Cowboys hosted the Tucson Saguaros for the first time this season on June 5th. The Saguaros got out to an early lead in the top of the 1st inning when Steve Joyner came in to score on an errant throw from Alpine starting pitcher Camrin Wleczyk. Zachary Campbell then came in minutes later on an RBI single from Jordan Medina. The Saguaros then scored three more runs in the 3rd inning after RBI singles from Zachary Campbell and Jordan Medina. the Saguaros brought in 10 total runs through the top of the 9th inning before the Cowboys were finally able to find the board. The Cowboys put up two runs in the bottom of the 9th after a wild pitch brought home Manny Garcia. Alex Canty then registered the only RBI for the Cowboys, singling to bring home Kam Holland. This late comeback attempt was unsuccessful as the Saguaros were able to close the door on the Cowboys, winning game one 10-2. Logan Chapman took the win in game one for the Saguaros, throwing 8 complete innings and shutting down the Cowboys. Chapman ended his outing with 8 strikeouts, while allowing just 5 hits and 3 walks. Camrin Wleczyk took ended up taking the loss in last night's game, lasting through 4.0 innings and allowing 6 runs, with 4 earned on 6 hits. Wleczyk also ended with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. The Front of the Saguaros lineup showed out at the plate, going a combined 6-14 and scoring 5 of the 10 runs for the Saguaros. RJ Johnson was also a standout player, going 2-4 with a single and double, while notching 2 RBIs. Alex Canty led the way for the Cowboys at the plate, going 2-4 with two singles and an RBI. Drew Bayard also stood out with two singles in his four plate appearances. After this game, the Cowboys record now sits at 3-3 this season, while the Saguaros move to a Mountain Division best 5-1. The 2nd of this two-game series will be played on June 6th at 7 pm at Kokernot Field.
