Roswell Invaders take down Alpine Cowboys 7-5 to open 2023 season

5/31/2023-The Alpine Cowboys opened up their 2023 campaign in Roswell vs the defending champion Roswell Invaders on May 31st at Joe Bauman Stadium. Seth Schroeder started the scoring for the Invaders in the bottom of the 1st when he scored on an error by Cowboys third baseman James Prockish, giving Roswell an early lead after the first inning. However, the lead didn't stay in place for long before the Cowboys tied the game in the top of the 2nd inning. Josh Rego came in from 3rd on a passed ball, knotting the game at 1-1. The Cowboys then took the lead in the top of the 3rd inning on a two-RBI double from Prockish, giving Alpine the lead 3-1. Down two runs, Roswell wasn't giving up that easily. The Invaders also put together a 2-run 3rd inning when Schroeder and Jaden Burns were brought in on a Lance Myers single, giving Roswell a 4-3 lead after the 3rd inning. Roswell then scored 3 more unanswered runs in the 7th inning on RBI knocks from Schroeder and Dillan Smith. In a last chance effort, the Cowboys were able to scrape together two more runs in the 9th before the Invaders ended the game, taking the win 7-5. Roswell's starting pitcher Edgar Martinez took the win in last night's affair, tossing 6.0 innings and striking out 8, while allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits. Alpine starting pitcher Dom Spinoso took the loss, lasting 3.2 innings and allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 8. Jonathan Fleckenstein registered a save in last night's game, throwing the last 3.0 innings for the Invaders. Fleckenstein allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2 as well. Seth Schroeder led the way for the Invaders, going 3-3 with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs. Schroeder also scored 4 times in last night's game. Lance Myers also had a stand out game for the Invaders, going 2-3 and bringing in 2 runs. For the Cowboys, James Prockish ended his night 2-4 at the plate. Prockish notched two RBIs and a walk in the affair. Drake Angeron also showed out in his Pecos League debut, going 2-4 with two singles, and scoring twice. The Cowboys and Invaders will go at it once again on June 1st at Joe Bauman Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 pm MST.
