High Desert Yardbirds Rally Past Monterey Amberjacks 7-6

June 12 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Monterey Amberjacks at Adelanto Stadium. High Desert collected 14 hits and overcame a six-run performance by Monterey, which finished with eight hits and one error. The Amberjacks committed three errors while the Yardbirds made two.

Monterey scored once in the third inning, once in the fifth and four times in the sixth. High Desert answered with a run in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth before adding single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win. The Yardbirds’ late scoring erased Monterey’s 6-5 advantage after six innings.

Ronnie Grant led High Desert with three hits, a run and an RBI, while Shane Brown added three hits, two runs and an RBI. Dominic Zaher went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and an RBI. Adolfo Espinoza contributed a hit and two RBIs. For Monterey, Ronald Jackson had two hits and three RBIs, Chuck Rocker went 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, and Matt Kuhl collected two hits.

Jalen Byrd earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning and one strikeout. Kyle Chavez worked 1.1 scoreless innings, and Shane Castro added a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Andrew Arnold took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits in two innings. Monterey starter Jordan Gray worked six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out five. High Desert starter Adolfo Espinoza allowed six runs, two earned, on seven hits in 5.2 innings, with five walks and four strikeouts.
