Santa Fe Fuego Hold Off Garden City Wind 7-6

July 27 2017 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Garden City Wind 7-6 after building an early lead and holding off a late rally. Santa Fe collected 11 hits and scored in the first two innings, the fifth and the sixth. Garden City answered with five runs in the eighth inning but could not complete the comeback.

Willie Doll led Santa Fe with three hits, including a double, while Eric Maria also had three hits and a double. AJ Flores scored twice and drove in a run, and Caleb Baker hit a two-run home run. David Stone, Doll and Rob Garza also homered for the Fuego, with Stone and Doll adding one RBI apiece. Garden City was led by Ryan Whitt, who went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, and Cameron Ketchen, who had two hits, a double and an RBI. Eli Roundtree added a two-run home run.

Ed Brandsema earned the win for Santa Fe, allowing five hits and four earned runs in 7.1 innings while striking out 13 and walking four. Nick Hornbaker recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning and two strikeouts. Garden City starter Casey Collins took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits in 1.2 innings. Kevin Delzell provided two scoreless innings for the Wind with two strikeouts.
