Alpine Cowboys Rally Past Roswell Invaders 6-5

July 28 2012 The Alpine Cowboys rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Roswell Invaders 6-5 at Kokernot Field. Alpine finished with seven hits and three errors, while Roswell collected nine hits and committed four errors.

Alpine scored twice in the first inning and added another run in the sixth before Roswell moved ahead with a two-run seventh and a run in the eighth. Roswell led 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, but the Cowboys scored three times to secure the victory. Roswell also scored once in the fifth and once in the ninth.

Ben Ives led Alpine with three hits, including a double and a home run, two runs and two RBI. Derrick Fox hit a home run and drove in a run, while Justin McDavid added two hits. Mike Marion had a hit and an RBI. For Roswell, Adam Kam went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Wes Kartch and Josh Cakebread each had two hits. Kartch added a double and an RBI.

Alpine starter Brett Kennedy worked seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs, none earned, while striking out three. Kevin Johnson earned the win with one inning of relief, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one. Roswell starter B. Castello pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, with six strikeouts. The losing pitcher was listed as Erik Burkewitz.
