July 11 2012 The Trinidad Triggers scored six runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 9-6 victory over the Las Cruces Vaqueros. Trinidad finished with 13 hits and no errors while Las Cruces collected 10 hits and committed three errors.
Las Cruces opened with three runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Trinidad answered with a run in the third before its six-run fifth inning put the Triggers ahead. Trinidad added one run in the seventh and another in the eighth to complete the scoring.
Derek Pembroke led Trinidad with two hits, two runs and three RBI. J. Fabry went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while C. Loehrs also homered and drove in a run. C. Stroud added two hits, including a double, and one RBI. For Las Cruces, R. Wells scored twice and went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while L. Lotti and W. Nolan each had two hits. Lotti drove in two runs and hit a double.
Anthony Smith earned the win after allowing nine hits and six runs over seven innings with one walk and three strikeouts. E. Binder worked a scoreless eighth and
Miguel Hernandez earned the save with a scoreless ninth that included three strikeouts. Las Cruces starter
Derek Johnson took the loss after surrendering nine hits and seven runs in five innings.
