June 23 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Roswell Invaders 17-7 at Fort Marcy Park, pounding out 19 hits while limiting Roswell to five. Alpine scored three runs in the first inning and erupted for seven in the second to build an early 10-2 advantage. The Cowboys added a run in the fifth, four in the seventh and two in the eighth, while Roswell scored three times in the third and once in each of the first, second, fifth and ninth innings.
Bo Bell led Alpine with two hits, three runs and five RBI, while Justin McDavid went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI and two home runs. Derrick Fox added two hits, three runs, two walks and an RBI, and Ben Ives collected three hits and two RBI. Tyler Hicks and Bell also homered for the Cowboys, who finished with four home runs overall.
Casanova Donaldson paced Roswell with two hits, a home run and three RBI. Adam Kam also homered and scored twice, while Reggie Taylor contributed two hits and an RBI. Roswell drew 11 walks but was held to five hits in the loss.
Steve Merslich earned the win for Alpine after allowing three hits and six runs, three earned, in four innings with 10 walks and five strikeouts. Derrick Dingeman followed with three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. David Kellerberg took the loss for Roswell after surrendering nine hits and 10 earned runs in 1.1 innings without a strikeout. Alpine finished with three errors, while Roswell played errorless defense.
