July 28 2011 The White Sands Pupfish defeated the Las Cruces Vaqueros 10-6 at Apodaca Park. White Sands collected 12 hits and scored in four innings, while Las Cruces finished with 11 hits and two errors.
The Pupfish took control with two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth before adding three in the fifth to build a 7-2 lead. White Sands scored three times in the eighth, offsetting a three-run Las Cruces inning, and the Vaqueros added one run in the ninth before the Pupfish closed out the victory.
Brett Mendoza led White Sands with three hits, two runs and three RBIs. Ruben Sanchez and Jamaal Jackson each drove in two runs, while Chad Bisnette had two hits and an RBI. Ryan Pembroke scored twice and collected two hits. Las Cruces received two hits each from Clint Stroud, Harry Williams Jr. and Colt Loehrs, while Henry Fuentes hit a solo home run and finished with a hit, a run and an RBI.
Chris Anklem earned the win for White Sands after allowing seven hits and two earned runs in seven innings. He walked two and struck out eight. Drew Cavender took the loss for Las Cruces, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in four innings. Andrew Riddick and Jacob McBride completed the Pupfish pitching effort.
