July 19 2011 The Las Cruces Vaqueros defeated the Alpine Cowboys 5-2 at Kokernot Field, using a three-run third inning and adding single runs in the sixth and seventh. Alpine scored once in the second and fifth innings but was held scoreless over the final two frames. Las Cruces finished with eight hits while Alpine collected five.
Henry Fuentes homered and drove in a run for Las Cruces, while Juan F. Martinez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Clint Stroud added three hits and an RBI. J.T. Putt also drove in a run, and Justin Lucero and Rob Herrmann each scored. Alpines Jason Simone recorded the teams lone RBI, and Nick Ochoa had a double.
Thomas Romero earned the win after allowing four hits and two earned runs in five innings, with four walks and one strikeout. Brandon Kelley worked two scoreless innings and allowed one hit to earn the save. Alpine starter Kevin Foeman took the loss after giving up six hits and four runs, three earned, in six innings while striking out six. Brian Hobbs struck out three in a scoreless inning of relief for the Cowboys.
