Vaqueros Use Early Lead to Defeat Invaders 6-2

July 16 2011 The Las Cruces Vaqueros defeated the Roswell Invaders 6-2 at Apodaca Park. Las Cruces collected 12 hits and scored in the first, second and third innings to build a 5-0 lead, then added another run in the sixth. Roswell answered with one run in the fifth and one in the seventh but finished with five hits.

Clint Stroud went 3-for-3 with two runs for Las Cruces, while Mitch Saum also collected three hits. James Lilley and J.T. Putt each hit a home run and drove in two runs, and Harry Williams Jr. added a hit, a run and an RBI. Rob Herrmann also contributed an RBI for the Vaqueros.

Mark Larini earned the win for Las Cruces after allowing two runs on five hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out five and walked four before Mike Duckworth recorded the final out. Roswell starter Reed Brown took the loss, surrendering six runs on 12 hits in six innings while striking out three.
