June 5 2011 The White Sands Pupfish defeated the Carlsbad Bats 13-11 after building an early lead and holding off a late Carlsbad push. White Sands scored in six of the first eight innings, including a five-run fifth and three-run seventh, while Carlsbad answered with four runs in the third, two in the sixth and five in the ninth.
Kieran Bradford led White Sands with four hits in five at-bats, three runs and two RBI. Rod Allen added two hits, scored twice, drove in four runs and hit a home run, while Chris De Biasi went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Michael Hur contributed three hits and two RBI for the Pupfish, who finished with 18 hits and 11 RBI.
Carlsbad collected 15 hits in the loss. Jeff Forgerson went 3-for-4 with two runs and a walk, while Sonny Glover had two hits and three RBI. Ryan Kesecker hit a two-run home run, and James Mays added two hits and two runs. The Bats also received two hits and an RBI from A. Villa.
Steven Lemmon earned the win for White Sands after allowing 10 hits and six runs over six innings, with four strikeouts and one walk. Jermaine Barksdale and Adam Osteen each worked a scoreless inning before John Winters allowed five runs in the ninth. Carlsbad starter John Masklee took the loss after giving up 11 hits and nine earned runs in five innings.
