June 18 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the White Sands Pupfish 13-6 at Fort Marcy Park. Alpine collected 17 hits and scored in five innings while White Sands finished with nine hits. The Cowboys opened with one run in the first and one in the second before breaking the game open with a five-run third inning for a 7-3 lead.
Alpine added two runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth to secure the win.
Derrick Fox went 3-for-6 with four RBI, while
Eric Garcia also had three hits and scored twice.
Kevin Hennessey hit a home run and drove in two runs, and
Chris Davis contributed two hits and two RBI.
Justin Mcdavid added two hits including a triple and scored three runs.
White Sands received two hits and two RBI from
Austin Newell and a two-hit performance from
Juan Martinez.
Blake Shaffer hit his 10th home run of the season and drove in two runs. The Pupfish scored three times in the third, twice in the fourth and once in the seventh but could not overcome Alpine's early advantage.
Steve Merslich earned the victory for Alpine after allowing nine hits and six runs four earned in 6.1 innings. He struck out 10 and walked two.
Derrick Dingeman,
Bryant Asnicar and
Andrew Wall combined to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Stephen Nikonchik took the loss for White Sands after allowing 12 hits and nine runs three earned in seven innings while striking out seven.
