Trinidad Triggers Rout Santa Fe Fuego 17-5

July 22 2024 The Trinidad Triggers defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 17-5 at Central Park, scoring 18 hits in the high-scoring victory. Trinidad broke a 2-1 game open with six runs in the sixth inning, added seven in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Santa Fe scored three times in the fifth and once in the sixth but could not keep pace.

Marcos Cabrera led Trinidad’s attack by going 5-for-5 with two home runs, two runs and four RBI. Jakobe Smith added three hits, three runs, a home run and four RBI, while Omar Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Peter Pena also homered and drove in a run, and Jordan Anderson scored three times with two hits and two RBI.

Cutter Smith earned the win after allowing 10 hits and five runs, three earned, in seven innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Diego Evans and Angel Garza each worked a scoreless inning in relief, combining for five strikeouts.

Santa Fe collected 11 hits, including three from Zeke Hass, who drove in two runs. Tristan Cavazos went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Jake Grubesic had two hits and scored once. Emmanuel Benavidez took the loss after surrendering 12 hits and eight earned runs in 5.2 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.
