July 22 2023 The Roswell Invaders defeated the Austin Weirdos 9-8 at Govalle Park in a game that featured 33 combined hits. Roswell collected 16 hits and Austin finished with 17, but the Invaders scored three times in the seventh inning to take the lead and held on for the victory.
Roswell opened the scoring with one run in the first inning and added five in the fifth to erase Austin’s 1-0 advantage. The Weirdos answered with five runs in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6, but Roswell’s three-run seventh put the home team ahead 9-6. Austin scored twice in the ninth, but Roswell closed out the win.
Robert Morosetti went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double for Roswell, while
Lance Myers added a double and two RBI.
Seth Schroeder finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and
Alvery De Los Santos went 3-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Rodney Tennie contributed a pinch-hit and two RBI. Austin’s
Rex Jackson went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a home run, while
Carlo Francisco scored twice and collected three hits.
De Los Santos struck out 13 in six innings for Roswell, allowing 13 hits and six earned runs.
Jack McNellis earned the win with one inning of one-hit relief, and
Jonathan Fleckenstein recorded the save with two innings, three hits allowed, two runs and four strikeouts. Austin starter
Jared Chapman worked five innings and allowed 10 hits and six runs, while
Brice Rivenbark took the loss after surrendering three runs in three innings.
