Garden City Wind Shut Out Austin Weirdos 8-0

July 18 2023 The Garden City Wind defeated the Austin Weirdos 8-0, combining an 11-hit attack with a dominant pitching performance. Garden City scored four times in the first inning, added one run in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Austin was held to three hits and did not score.

Najay KIng led the Wind with two hits, two runs and three RBI, including two home runs. Brian Hawkins added two hits and two RBI, while Jordan Harris went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Devon Zielke homered, scored once and drove in a run, and Dylan Wilkinson contributed a hit, a run and an RBI. Garden City also turned one double play.

Tommy Castro earned the win after allowing two hits and striking out seven over seven scoreless innings. Matthew Fountain pitched a scoreless eighth with one strikeout, and Easton Barnes completed the shutout with a scoreless ninth and two strikeouts. Austin starter Jared Chapman took the loss despite working seven innings; he allowed 10 hits and seven runs, four earned, while striking out seven.
