Tucson Saguaros Hold Off Austin Weirdos 16-10

July 15 2023 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Austin Weirdos 16-10 at Kino Stadium. Tucson collected 16 hits and built a 12-0 lead through five innings, scoring twice in the first, once in the second, once in the third, twice in the fourth and six times in the fifth.

Madison Santos led Tucson with two hits, two runs and five RBI, including a home run. Gavy Perez-Torres went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while JuJuan Franklin added three hits, three runs and two RBI. Steve Joyner scored three runs and stole a base, and Brock Ephan reached base three times with two runs and three walks.

Austin mounted its biggest offensive inning in the seventh, scoring 10 runs to cut the deficit, but Tucson answered with four runs in the bottom half. Austin finished with nine hits, led by Austin Brewers three hits and Alex Westmans two hits. Darius Simple hit a home run and drove in two runs for the Weirdos.

Isaac Keehn earned the win after allowing two hits and no runs in six innings while striking out eight and walking two. Markus Bracey took the loss for Austin, surrendering 13 hits and 12 runs in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and three walks. Tucson used five relievers to finish the game.
