July 11 2023 The Vallejo Seaweed defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 10-5 after building an early lead at Wilson Park. Vallejo scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second to take a 7-0 advantage. Monterey answered with four runs in the third, but the Seaweed added single runs in the fourth sixth and seventh innings before Monterey scored once in the ninth.
Dandre Gaines powered Vallejo with a home run and four RBI while
Mickey Nunes homered twice scored three runs and drove in one. Nunes also drew two walks.
Gary Mason Jr. and
David Escobar each had two hits for the Seaweed. Monterey collected 14 hits, led by
Chaison Miklich’s three hits including a home run and two RBI.
Jake Grubesic had three hits and an RBI while
Anthony Ward added two hits including a homer and two RBI.
David Escobar completed the game for Vallejo, allowing 14 hits and five runs, four earned, with two walks and four strikeouts.
Chris Bueno took the loss for Monterey after surrendering six hits and seven runs, six earned, in one inning.
