Santa Fe Fuego Hold Off Roswell Invaders 9-6

July 31 2021 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Roswell Invaders 9-6 after building an early seven-run lead. Santa Fe scored five times in the first inning and added two more in the second before Roswell answered with three runs in the third. The Fuego added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while the Invaders scored once in the fifth and twice in the eighth. Santa Fe collected 10 hits, including home runs by Ryan Bernardy, Parker DePasquale and Philip Buckingham. Bernardy went 2-for-5 with two RBI, DePasquale went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, and Buckingham went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Michael Varga and Jesus Chavez also drove in runs for the Fuego. Matthew Sanchez earned the win for Santa Fe after allowing five hits and four earned runs in seven innings. He walked seven and struck out 12. Ryan Norrix recorded the save with 1.1 hitless innings and two strikeouts. Roswell starter Ashton Holdridge took the loss after surrendering nine runs eight earned on nine hits in five innings, while Josh Smith held Santa Fe scoreless over three innings with five strikeouts.
