Saguaros Use Five Run Fifth to Defeat Cowboys

June 12 2021 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Alpine Cowboys 6-1, scoring five runs in the fifth inning and adding another run in the seventh. Alpine avoided a shutout with a run in the ninth inning. Tucson finished with eight hits and one error, while Alpine collected eight hits and committed two errors.

Leo Gallegos led Tucson’s offense with three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs. Rod Dobbs added a hit and an RBI, while BJ Minarcin went 4-for-5 with a run scored. Tucson also received two walks each from Tyler Baumann and Danny Kerr.

Jeff Serin earned the win after allowing five hits and two walks over six scoreless innings, striking out 10. Tyler Rumbaugh and Pat Clare each worked a scoreless inning before Jesse Palafox allowed Alpine’s ninth-inning run. Alpine starter Jake Thomas held Tucson scoreless for four innings with three hits allowed and four strikeouts, but Alejandro Amezquita was charged with the loss after Tucson scored five runs in two-thirds of an inning.
