Santa Fe Fuego are en Fuego

The Santa Fe Baseball Team has been through alot of they haven't even stepped on the field. Today the Pecos League has announced the Santa Fe team will be called the Santa Fe Fuego. The name and logo of the Santa Fe Mountain Lions was too similar to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Also with the Florida Marlins changing their colors it would be hard to get gear in Teal. Robert Romero lead the way for the name change. The colors will be Yellow, Red and Black. The logo will be released in the next two weeks and will incorporate a Zia and fire. Fuego means fire in Spanish and is commonly spoken in sports with the term en Fuego. After three tries (Zozobras, Sangres and Mountain Lions) the Pecos League decided to let the people of Santa Fe take control of the naming. "Many people suggested the Senators and I felt that was not a good name with the Ottawa Senators in the NHL and the Harrisburg Senators in MILB. We really heard some crazy names but this one will stick. Many people started to play the Penn State Card so we needed to change immediately. I never realized how similar the Mountain Lion Hats were to Penn State." says Andrew Dunn Commisioner of the Pecos League.
The website will remain the same http://santafe.pecosleague.com
Fans who bought a Mountain Lions hat can exchange in for a Fuego Hat once the Fuego Hats are made. "This has been quite a ride already and we haven't even started. I don't care what we are called I am ready to hit the field. " says field manager Bill Moore.
The Santa Fe Fuego will be holding a tryout on December 11th at Fort Marcy Park at 1:00 MST both Moore and Dunn will be in attendence seeking players for the 2012 season.

The Superstars Baseball Club dates back to the early 1970s; with Walters taking over the program since 1998. Since taking over the program the Club has expanded within the baseball community having teams participate in 16 under, 18 under, as well as collegiate tournaments and /or showcases. The Fort Lauderdale Superstars has affiliated with Federal League, worked with Margate Baseball League, and have called the historical Floyd Hull Stadium their home for the past 7 years.

Teams consider changing their names

Santa Fe city manager Robert Romero is in process of changing the name of the Santa Fe Mountain Lions. Some of the names being considered are Friars, Mustangs, Feos, Turkey Vultures, Crow, Arroyos, Summit, tumble weeds, woodpeckers, Sky, Spaniards, and of course Conquistadors. Every city that has a Pecos League team always suggests Conquistadors.

The Pecos League attempted to name the team the Zozobras but the Lions Club claimed that they own the noun. And unlike everyone in Santa Fe the Pecos League decided to go along and not be controversial. Mountain Lions is also a natural fit, Santa Fe County has had a rash of Mountain Lion attacks and it doesn't hurt that the Pecos League still had Mountain Lions gear from the 2010 Continental League Desert Valley Mountain Lions.

The excitement and request for a name/color change was sparked with the Florida Marlins dropped teal and went with their new modern colors.

The White Sands Pupfish will not change their name. The proposed name change of Alamogordo F16's and Alamogordo Spacemen will not take place. The White Sands Pupfish had a great first year and will grew off of their first year. There was some confusion over both the White Sands and the Pupfish part of their name. White Sands is a tiny military town in between Las Cruces and Alamogordo. Practically no one knows what a Pupfish is either. Some key fans wanted Alamogordo in the name of the team because alot of people do not realize White Sands is in Alamogordo.
"We are keeping the name, colors and identity of the Pupfish. Couldn't ask for better first year. If you look at other Independent League Teams across the US there are alot of abstract names." says Andrew Dunn owner of the Pupfish.

Pecos League wins Santa Fe City Council Vote in Extra Innings

Pecos League wins in Santa Fe in extra innings 5-4.
The Santa Fe Mountain Lions have their biggest win and they haven't even taken the field.
Councilor Ron Trujillo picked up the win, Mayor David Coss picked up the save.
Santa Fe legend Rod Tafoya was a major force and he wasn't even on the mound.
David Coss surprised everyone with his vote of yes bringing the Mountain Lions.
City Councilors voted 5-4 to now allow An Ordinace Amending Article 23-6 SFCC 1987 to Permit the Limted Sale and Consumption of Alcoholic

Beverages at Fort Marcy Ball Park for Professional Baseball Games.

The Santa Fe Mountain Lions needed to win a city council election allowing the team to sell alcohol at Fort Marcy Park.
After 3 hours of deliberation and public speaking the votes were split right down the middle forcing the Mayor to break the tie.
Carmichael Dominguez, Patti Bushee, Miguel Chavez and Chris Calvert voted against the proposal.
Ron Trujillo, Matthew Ortiz, Rosemary Romero and Rebecca Wurzburger voted for the proposal.
Mayor David Coss broke a tie to approve the league's proposal to use the ballpark for a new team here and to allow limited beer sales during games. Councilor Ron Trujillo, who introduced the resolution, said he regrets that the proposal was so divisive but sees it as an entertainment opportunity for the city and an encouragement for young, aspiring athletes. Numerous opposition groups gave stories about how bad alcohol is to life, society and how bad it would be for the Mountain Lions to sell alcohol.

What started as a simple proposal to bring pro baseball into Santa Fe turned into a nasty campaign with a large opposition group and arguments that divided many councilors and long time city residents.
Longtime local baseball fan Mark Ortiz said "We need baseball in Santa Fe, this a great opportunity."
Las Cruces General Manager and longtime Santa Fe Resident Miguel Salcedo said "I knew they would get their heads on straight on get this thing through. This is typical process for Santa Fe."
Rod Tafoya said "Someone is going to hit 50 home runs here this summer. A good left handed power hitter. This is a dream of mine."
Tafoya has played independent baseball for 13 years and was one of the big stories of the night. He is a left handed pitcher that pitched in the Northwest League for Mal Fichman. Tafoya is currently on Spring Training Roster and was the most popular speaker of the night. "I have played in Tabasco, Mexico, Boise, Piedras Negras, Regina, and all over the US and Mexico. I have never been in a park that didn't sell beer. It would be a stupid idea and no one would try it." His statements were applauded by the standing room only crowd inside of city hall.

The Q and A with Andrew Dunn had mixed reviews
Chris Calvert grilled Andrew Dunn on what profits would be, what the percentage of sponsorships come from beer and if signage could be sold all the way around the outfield.
Patti Bushee stated that the hockey team didn't get alcohol.
Carmichael Dominguez was a swing vote that went on the no side, he stated he didn't have enough facts or the information he had requested to vote for the baseball team. He didn't believe the Pecos League had enough credibility despite the established tenure and commitment to the State of New Mexico.
Miguel Chavez was going to vote no because of alcohol no mattter about baseball or not.

Andrew Dunn commissioner of the Pecos League states:
"We want to play baseball in Santa Fe New Mexico. Budweiser is on course to be our biggest sponsor and beer sales are required in every professional sport to make things happen. We don't care about politics and we didn't realize how large of an issue this would be. For those it divided we plan to re-unit them via the game of baseball. We plan on the Mountain Lions being a fixture at Fort Marcy Park for the next decade. This is great day for the city of Santa Fe and the Pecos League."

Pecos League votes on the DH

The big city council election in Santa Fe wasn't the only vote going on in Santa Fe. The Pecos League managers voted on the DH and the vote was 6-0 in favor of having a DH in entire season.

In the 2011 the Pecos League did not have a DH for the first half of the season. It was complicated in the Pointstreak scoring system and caused a huge range of inaccurate stats. The National Rules were popular via fans and made managing a real challenge but the Pecos League was the only independent league to go with no DH.

Let's get it over with Election Day November 9, 2011

The final decision on the alcohol in Santa Fe will be voted on tonight at 7PM.
This decision will drastically effect the future of the Pecos League.
The issue at stake is alcohol in Fort Marcy Park and the support of citizens. Santa Fe has many political groups that fight anything that tries to come into town. A business could come into town and give 20 dollar bills out to the public on Alta Vista Road and there would be political groups for and against this. The facts are simply Fort Marcy sits vacant in the Summer the Pecos League is not asking for money from the city to play there and will not have any negative issues or problems by having a team there.
If alcohol is voted in then the Pecos League is set for the 2012 season with six teams and no travel team.
This also will open the door for Taos New Mexico to get a team for the 2013 season and formally put the Pecos League on the New Mexico Map.
Although the Las Cruces Vaqueros have been in operation since 2009, and the Roswell Invaders, Ruidoso Osos, Carlbad Bats and White Sands Pupfish played in 2010, no one took notice in the State of New Mexico. No one North of Interstate 40 knew the Pecos League existed until now.
A team in the Santa Fe market would really help not only the City of Santa Fe but the entire Pecos League.
This includes non New Mexico teams of Alpine and Trinidad.
If Santa Fe votes down alcohol it will be another city that had huge potential blocked by city leaders like Carlsbad and Clovis.
For those against alcohol they have little knowledge of how far the Pecos League has come in New Mexico. Alcohol is a neccessity for any professional sports team at any level. New Mexico is the center of the Pecos League and Santa Fe is the Center of New Mexico, we would love to play ball in Santa Fe in 2012. If we are unwelcome we will pack our bags and load up the truck and goto another city that welcomes us.

Pecos League Statement on Santa Fe Beer Process.

The Pecos League has been bombarded with questions from citizens, fans, critics, and everyone else who has a 505 area code. This beer issue has really taken off and people are either on one side or the other.

Here are the facts:

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs wants a to play baseball in Fort Marcy Park in the Summer of 2012 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe happens to be one of the political cities in the United States, very different than any town in the entire Pecos League Region. The citizens of Santa Fe and the leaders of the city of Santa Fe are very familiar with the Pecos League and the benefits the league has brought to other New Mexico Cities. The Pecos League is not asking for $500,000 to bring a team in, we are willing to accept Fort Marcy in current condition and grow with the team and the league. The Pecos League obviously wants to be in Santa Fe to increase exposure of the Pecos League and to bring family entertainment to Santa Fe, a city that actually needs it. "This should be expected in Santa Fe, political debates are the norm. If they get beer passed this could be a big event, Fort Marcy can be perfect for this league." says Las Cruces Vaqueros General Manager Miguel Salcedo, who was born and raised in Santa Fe. Miguel has also been with the Vaqueros since the team was formed in 2009 and sees great potential in Santa Fe.

Will Webber is the person that got the ball rolling with the Santa Fe Team. He was the man who spearheaded talks between Robert Romero, Ronald Trujillo and Andrew Dunn.
The Pecos League tried to put a team in Santa Fe in 2011 and begged Santa Fe for an exhibition game in the 2011 season when Ruidoso played Roswell in Clovis and in Pueblo. Andrew Dunn went to Santa Fe twice. Originally the two teams were supposed to play at Fort Marcy and made the Pueblo game a doubleheader and moved another game in the series to Roswell. Barbara Lopez with the Santa Fe Parks and Recreation Committee said the field was not available under any circumstances. The facts were the field was sitting idle and was used as a backup field for an AABC League.

In an interview with Will Webber last week Pecos League Commissioner Andrew Dunn stated that he wanted to play in Santa Fe no matter what for the 2012 season. The purpose of the interview was to announce the hiring of Bill Moore. This rattled leaders of the city and the city council as they are trying to get votes so alcohol can be passed.
Many people read the article and took it that the Mountain Lions were coming to Santa Fe no matter what. Well Mountain Lions are very mobile animals and can be a very mobile team. If the situation is not right the Mountain Lions can move to one of many cities within the region. The Pecos League wants the Mountain Lions to play in Santa Fe. There are two swing votes that can go either way. Current Vote count is believed to be 3-3, if the swing votes split the tie is broken by the Mayor. Many people would love for this to happen to put pressure on the Mayor.

"Let's play ball" says Bill Moore who will be head coach of Mountain Lions. The Pecos League has to move forward with signing of players and putting a quality ballclub together. "We are going to have six teams, regardless of this election, Coach Moore needs to get to work. Anyone who has ever worked with Bill Moore will tell you he is a great coach and great individual, I think the people of Santa Fe will love him. We are baseball people we don't like going to all of these meetings and playing games we just want a situation where we have a chance to be viable and the rest we will take care of" says Andrew Dunn Pecos League Commisioner.
"Alot of the players are considering signing with Pecos League have Santa Fe at the top of their list. Players from across the Country know where it is unlike all of the other cities. "

The conversation that keeps coming up is the hockey team the Santa Fe Roadrunners, the Roadrunners were a minor league hockey team that failed because they didnt sell beer. They played out of the Genoveva Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe. The team lasted 3 years but didn't sell beer and ultimately moved to Topeka, Kansas. The Pecos League and NAHL Hockey League have absolutely nothing in common. The NAHL Hockey League had huge long expensive road trips such as all over Texas, Springfield and Texarkana. Hockey dried up all over the South after the NHL Strike. The Roadrunners didn't have beer, but in their defense Santa Fe has no connection with the game of hockey, there is no heritage or connection. No one in Santa Fe grew up playing hockey that is for sure. Baseball is a different story. Many Santa Fe natives are huge baseball fans and the game has been in Northern New Mexico for generations. And when the Mountain Lions take the field they will be playing against much closer opponents that people actually know such as Las Cruces, Roswell, Alamogordo, Trinidad and Alpine. The Pecos League is New Mexico Based and has three others teams in New Mexico and Santa is in the center of the footprint.

There have been talks of the city putting up money for the Pecos League to come and not sell beer. The Pecos League is open to all options as long as it a viable option. If it shows strong commitment from the City of Santa Fe that they want the Pecos League and that is what is important. Like our other cities we plan on being in Santa Fe permanently not for 1-2 years. We need commitment and support. For information on the Mountain Lions visit http://santafe.pecosleague.com

Santa Fe hires Bill Moore as inaugural Manager

The Santa Fe Mountain Lions are beginning to solidify their 2012 season. The major news today was the hiring of field manager Bill Moore. Bill comes to Santa Fe from Bisbee where he served as head coach for the Bisbee Copperkings.

Here is Q and A with Bill Moore

What type of ballclub are you going to build in 7000 foot elevation?
Pitching that can keep the ball down.

What do you know about Santa Fe?
Very little, I know it is the capital of New Mexico and it is an historic town, I am looking forward to establishing Pro Baseball in Santa Fe.

You were originally going to manage in the Pecos League in 2011 in Bisbee, but the Copperkings did not get into the Pecos League. What were your thoughts on the Pecos League not getting into Bisbee?
I was very disappointed at the time, and now with a job opening with a great market I am glad the way things worked out.

What do you think about the name Mountain Lions and colors?
If we can play like a Mountain Lion will fight then we will be alright.

Chris Paterson named manager in White Sands

Chris Paterson has been named the field manager for the White Sands Pupfish for the 2012 season.
Chris won manager of the year in the Pecos League for 2011 in Roswell and won the regular season title. He also assembled a team that beat the El Paso Diablos.
He is very familiar with Alamogordo as he played around 10 games there against the Pupfish and was on the other side of the Roswell/White Sands rivalry.
In Roswell, Chris signed arguably the leagues best players in the off season in Brian Fowler, Clifton Thomas, Brian Ramirez and Troy Frazier.
Many Roswell Fans are very disapointed as they wanted Chris back to defend his championship. "I am looking for something new, I will be starting over in the 2012 season, there will be a couple of players I will bring down from Roswell with me, but otherwise I will start over. I am very happy with the season in Roswell and hope to continue success in White Sands. I realize the Pecos League will be much more difficult this year, #1 no travel team and six solid teams, I miss those free wins against Carlsbad #2 Other teams from higher leagues will be taking our players sooner and earlier due to the high amount of players we sent off last year."
Chris will managing in the Arizona Winter League and the Pecos Spring League he is currently an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays and runs their California Scout Team

"Chris wanted a to goto Santa Fe but Matt and Wally sold him on Alamogordo. The job Alamogordo did in the All-Star Game and with their Friday Night attendence was great. He received offers from other higher leagues to go as an assistant, but wanted to be head coach for another season. We have hundreds of coaches apply for this position, Chris was most logical choice. It speaks highly for Alamogordo's committment to the Pupfish in the fact the a highly desired manager choose Alamogordo over both Roswell and Santa Fe." says Pecos League commisioner Andrew Dunn

In 2010 Chris served as field manager for the Desert Valley Mountain Lions of the Continental Baseball League where he finished with a 26-26 mark and was named CBL manager of the year in his first managerial stop.
This was a huge accomplishment for a travel team. Paterson has also served as a manager and coach in the California Winter league the past two season reaching the championship game both times and also helping to sign and place dozens of players in professional baseball leagues. Prior to this season Paterson also served as the pitching coach for Pacifica College in Riverside California helping the team in its first year of play. Prior to his coaching career Chris grew up in San Bernardino, CA playing is high school baseball at Redlands East Valley where he was part of the first League championship team for the school. He then went on to play junior college baseball at Barstow Community College where he was all conference honorable mention as an outfield/ pitcher. He earned a scholarship to play division one college baseball at North Dakota State University in the Summit League. He finished his college career here as an outfielder and a pitcher handling the two-way role in both his seasons there. In his senior season Paterson threw a no hitter against perennial college baseball powerhouse Creighton University, earning him national honors and awards. He also would go on to have 15 innings of scoreless relief appearances in the same season. Paterson would go on to graduate with his Bachelors degree in Behavioral Studies from North Dakota State University before pursuing his professional career over seas. His travels would take him to Europe to play in France, Italy and Germany where he was the best pitcher in the country and also to Australia to play during the winter. Chris would then return back to the USA to start his Independent baseball career. In his Indy career Chris would earn all-star honors playing in the Continental baseball league for his 2.91 era and 8-0 record. Chris currently serves as an associate scout for the Tampa bay Rays and will assist with the scout team in Southern California. He is finishing up his Masters Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration form Concordia University Irvine in California. He currently resides in Yucaipa, CA.

Pecos League formally signs with Trinidad

The Pecos League is crossing the Colorado State Line for the 2nd time, this time to stay. The Trinidad Triggers and Pecos League signed a lease for the Triggers to be the 5th team in the Pecos League. Unlike all of the cities in New Mexico there is no huge political game to sell alcohol and play baseball, this was accomplished with a simple meeting with city officials as the beer laws are much more relaxed in the state. The team will wear black sleeveless jerseys with black hats. The Triggers may play 2-4 home games in Raton depending on demand and availablilty.

The Triggers have launched their website TrinidadTriggers.com and head coach Justin Lowery has signed more veteran players than any team in the league. Rosters are always subject to change but Lowery is hitting the ground running. "I like the support here and once we arrive with our full team it will only get better."
But currently the Triggers roster features Championship Series MVP Brian Ramirez, who lead Las Cruces in hitting in 2010 season and had the key home run in the Championship Game in 2011. Andrew Riddick lead White Sands in Home Runs and was one of Alpine's best players, he is going to Trinidad to pitch and hit. Evan Ellison is one of the Pecos League's top Left Handed Pitching Prospects. Daniel Pembroke is one of the leagues most popular players and looks to do extreme offensive damage in high altitude.
Assistant Coach JD Droddy is excited to get the team ready for Spring Training. Here are some fast facts about the Triggers

Team Name Trindad Triggers-named by Paula Manini

colors-Black and Yellow

Ballpark-Central Park

Head Coach Justin Lowery (Atlanta, Ga)

Ownership Group Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs

(2012-Present

website: http://www.TrinidadTriggers.com

The Triggers were brought to Trinidad under Ed Gil de Rubio who is quite a baseball fan himself.

The Pecos League began to explore Colorado in hopes of playing Pueblo. The Pecos League actually played a series in Pueblo in the 2011 season and plans to have a team in Pueblo West for the 2013 season. 2013 could be quite a rivalry between Trinidad and Pueblo West. The Triggers will wait until November 9, 2011 city council meeting to determine who their 2012 Northern Rival will be, if city council votes alcohol in at Fort Marcy Park, it will be the Santa Fe Mountain Lions, if not it is anyones guess.

Pecos League attempting to finalize Santa Fe Puzzle

November 9th is judgement day for the Pecos League in Santa Fe.
Although the Prelimary Schedule is out, 4 managers are hired, teams are beginning to sign players. The final pieces of the league will be answered at a city council meeting in Santa Fe at 7 PM at Santa Fe City Hall. The issue up for debate is selling beer at historic Fort Marcy Park where currently there is an ordinance that prohibits the sale of beer at this park. The people that will be making the decision will be the 8 city councilors. Currently the unofficial vote is 3-3 with two unknowns. To get this resolution changed the Pecos League needs a 5-3 vote or a 4-4 vote. In the event of a 4-4 vote the Mayor would be the one called upon to break the tie. This is not the first time the Pecos League has fought this same issue or the 2nd. Due to strict New Mexico alcohol laws, Las Cruces (January 2010), Alamogordo (2011), and Roswell (2011) had to pass beer through their city council. Roswell process was very tough.

Although there was opposition to the process in these other New Mexico Cities, it is nothing like the Pecos League is experiencing in Santa Fe. There is a group of citizens that are rallying boycotts against Alcohol, "Not in Backyard" is their slogan.
This group is an experienced group of debators that constantly fight alcohol events in Santa Fe. The group is not opposed to the Pecos League and actually supports the Pecos League idea in Santa Fe. Just preferably without beer. The AABC team that occupies Fort Marcy Park in the Summer has no problem with scheduling conflicts at Fort Marcy.

Ronald Trujillo is the city councilor that has requested this ordinance change be put on docket. He has been a baseball coach for 20 years and does not want to let this opportunity go by. The cities legal council has remained neutral, the city manager Robert Romero is a huge baseball fan, his nephew Thomas Romero lead the Las Cruces Vaqueros in apperences in the 2012 season as a left handed reliever.

The Pecos League already has a manager set in place if alcohol passes. The Team would be named the Mountain Lions and occupy historic Fort Marcy Park.
If alcohol is not passed on November 9th then the Pecos League has several backup options.
Where will the 6th team go?

Durango Colorado-Although this would expand the league's footprint and would make things further, the schedule already has teams making Northern Swings to Trinidad. Great Fans, great ballpark and a quality market for baseball.

Taos New Mexico-currently has no lights, no beer in process of getting both. Has a sports alliance that is interested in bringing events in.

Bisbee Arizona-Warren Ballpark quite possibly one of finest ballparks in terrority, many College Teams are fighting over field, Copperkings might collapse

Raton New Mexico (adjoins Trinidad would save the league huge travel money), city is very small, would be tough to support a team.

Pecos Texas (Alpine's choice, wants in the league)-despite small size they have a very good ballpark with potential. Wouldn't have to fight New Mexico alcohol laws to sell beer in county facility.

Bring back the Carlsbad Bats Travel Team, the bats played very well in the 2nd half of the year, manager Ryan Powell thinks he could go .500 if he managed the entire season.
The Bats were a fan favorite throughout SouthEast New Mexico from the day the Powell took over.

Pecos League to play exhibition games against New Mexico School of Baseball

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is proud to announce exhibition games against New Mexico School of Baseball. The New Mexico School of Baseball is a college summer league which plays games at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. These exhibitions give coaches in the Pecos League a chance to test out new acquistions and it gives the college players an opportunity to go against the Pros. The Las Cruces Vaqueros played two games against the New Mexico Aggies in 2010 before large crowds in Apodoca Park. "This is credible team that will show up and play hard, we thought we were going to terminate playing summer college teams but if Darrell has his team we will play them.
With the exception of Darrell's team,
West Texas/New Mexico are not typically stable in this region and Darrell has been only team that you can actually schedule, we tried to schedule ABQ, El Paso and other New Mexico Teams and they just don't show up." says Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn.
Dunn is also going to assist Darrell is playing games against the Bisbee CopperKings

In 2011 the Pecos League was scheduled to play games against the New Mexico College League based out of Albuquerque lead by Hector Martinez in Roswell and Alamogordo. Hector failed to show up for either game and did not notify the league or team officials. Also in 2011 the Roswell Invaders scheduled a game with the West Texas Outlaws based out of Amarillo. Again the team no showed.
Here are scheduled dates for the 2012 season

May 29 at Apodoca Park in Las Cruces (Vaqueros)

June 4 at Alamogordo (Pupfish)

June 23 at Apodoca Park in Las Cruces (Vaqueros)

June 25 at Roswell (Invaders)

Darrell Carrillo director of New Mexico School of Baseball says "We are excited to continue to play the Vaqueros for the 3rd year in row, our players are excited, plus we will see some of the new ballparks this year."

Alpine Cowboys trade closer Brian Hobbs to the Evansville Otters

The Evansville Otters started building their team for 2012 with the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Brian Hobbs on Thursday afternoon. The reliever comes to Evansville in a trade with the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League for a player to be named later.

Hobbs, the 41st round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2006, played college baseball at Chipola College and the University of South Florida, where he was a position player.

Hobbs made the transition to pitching this season with Alpine, striking out 34 batters in 23 1/3 innings pitched. Hobbs finished the year 1-2 for the Cowboys, collecting four saves and maintaining an earned run average of 1.93 .

The Evansville Otters begin the 2012 season at home on Friday, May 18th against the Washington Wild Things. First pitch on Opening Day is tentatively scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT at Historic Bosse Field.

Pecos League leaning towards six teams

After touring numerous cities it is most likely that the Pecos League will field six teams in the 2012 season. The Las Cruces Vaqueros, White Sands Pupfish, Roswell Invaders, Alpine Cowboys and Trinidad Triggers are awaiting the City Council Vote on November 9th in Santa Fe when the City Council will vote on alcohol sales in Fort Marcy Park. Should this election be positive then the Pecos League could be set with their six teams. If the election is not positive then the Pecos League will explore other options with Taos, Raton, Durango or Bisbee. The Pecos League will look to be in Pueblo and Taos for the 2013 Season.

"Six solid teams in the way to go eliminating a travel team is best for the league" says Matt McDermott IndependentBaseball.net Publisher.
"Having six teams with no travel teams will make all six teams competitive and keep the pitching staff stronger. For a competitive balance we do not want another situation like Carlsbad. We would like winning percentage in the league to be between .400 and .600" says Andrew Dunn.

Justin Lowery is the Field Manager of the Triggers.
The team will occupy Central Park and begin spring training on May 1.
Naturally the Triggers have raided the White Sands Pupfish roster (Justin Smith, Brett Mendoza, Andrew Riddick, Ryan Pembroke). The Triggers didn't stop on the field, they also lured JD Droddy who was serving as the booster club president and one of the Pupfish's most loyal fan to join the Triggers.
Droddy will reside in Raton, NM and will help operate the Triggers. The Triggers attempted to use the Pupfish Vegas Gold colors but will settle for Black and Yellow instead. The league didn't want two teams with identical colors.

Pupfish Manager Keith Essary out

Alamogordo, NM- Keith Essary resigned today from the White Sands Pupfish. Keith wanted to comeback to the Pupfish for the 2012 season but a local uprising from fans threatened team support if he returned.

The problems with Essary occured with off field behavior of his players.
Keith also buried himself with his newspaper comments to the Ruidoso Osos. Keith was involved in the loser leaves town bar fight in Alamogordo.

Essary was probably the leagues most successful manager on the field he narrowly missed the playoffs. Keith lead the Pupfish to a 2nd place record in the Pecos League. He antics on the road made him the most hated coach on the road. Essary is going to be a candidate for open coaching positions in the Northern Division of the Pecos League. "It is best interest of Pecos League for Keith not to be Alamogordo for 2012 season, if a position opens up in the Northern Division he will be considered and should jump on it. Keith has stated he will only return to Alamogordo but if the opportunity does occur he should reconsider. Keith did an excellent job on the field and will learn from his season in 2012." says Andrew Dunn

Pecos League establishes its own umpiring crew

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced they will have their own umpiring crew for the 2012 season.
The umpires will be full time umpires and will be provided housing as well as pay. Jim Evans and Lance Schoenwald umpiring school may be the source for umpires. The Pecos League is currently scheduled to have either six or eight teams. If there are eight teams there will be four full time crews, if there are six teams there will be three full time crews. The Pecos League will have a person in charge of assiging umpires and coordination of suspensions/league conduct. "In 2011 the majority of problems on the field was a direct result of inexperienced umpires. As the season progressed the umpires improved but there aren't enough umpires in New Mexico to begin with. There was major inconsistancy between towns with umpires." The cost will be the same or less and the quality of umpiring will be much higher. Sending umpires directly from umpire school to the Pecos League is ideal for both the umpires and the Pecos League.

Las Cruces was the only city that had quality consistant umpiring as the Vaqueros often were able to get El Paso Diablo alternate umpires.
Roswell had no umpires and constantly had to get umpires from Ruidoso.

Alpine had an umpiring crew that held the team hostage demanding high wages and three man crews.

Alamogordo actually established there own crew with five umpires working but only two were actually qualified to work the plate at games.

Trinidad has access to umpires from Pueblo but mileage is a concern

Santa Fe has access to umpires in ABQ but mileage is again a concern

Taos has limited umpires that are qualified.

The Pecos League agrees with Rawlings on Baseball Deal

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced they will be going with Rawlings as the official baseball for the 2012 season.
Rawlings is the official ball of Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, the American Association, the Frontier League and the CanAm League. In 2011 the Pecos League attempted to get baseballs from Rawlings but Rawlings was not interested in the Pecos League. Now that the Pecos League has expanded into Colorado, Rawlings is willing to jump on board. The deal between the Pecos League and Rawlings was struck when the Pecos League intended to play in Pueblo, Colorado which is a Rawlings hotbed. In Pueblo the college baseball park in named after Rawlings and the Rawlings Brand is a major supporter of Colorado Baseball. The Pecos League won't play in Pueblo until 2013 but Rawlings agreed to stay on board with a team in Trinidad. Rawlings does not have a sales rep in the state of New Mexico as was unaware of the Pecos League.
The Pecos League will be making custom baseballs with team logos, multi color seems and sponsor logos. The Baseballs will have the very familiar Rawlings Logo on them. In 2011 the Pecos League used ProNine Baseballs. ProNine was the only company that would work with the Pecos League in 2011. The Pecos League went through around 1180 dozen baseballs in a six team league. Now numerous companies expressed interest and Rawlings is obviously the best baseball. The Cushioned Cork Center will cause for some long shots in high altitude parks. ProNine was known as a pitchers ball because of its dead cork. In 2010 the Big Bend Cowboys and Las Cruces Vaqueros used ProNine Baseballs. In the middle of the 2011 season ProNine shipped the Pecos League 10 cases of high school baseballs with high seems. ProNine said they didn't know the difference in a high school and a pro baseball leaving the Pecos League out to dry. Pitchers were forced to use the balls. The Pecos League had no choice but to use them until replacements could be located. Pro Nine also missed its shipment dates twice. "Basically we are getting a better ball for the same price and when our players get called up to higher leagues they are comfortable using a Rawlings Ball, that is what they will be using in the American Association, Frontier League and Affliated Baseball."

"The Jersey looks good, gold will make us distinguishable in the Pecos League I am ready to take the field right now." There is not another team that has Gold Jerseys in the Pecos League.

Taos Blizzard would be Ruidoso replacement with lights and beer

Where would you rather go Taos or Ruidoso?
This is the question Texas Tourists have been asking themselves for years. Now the Pecos League is finding itself in the same question. Except the question won't be who has the most snow and better slopes it will be which city can support a baseball team in the Pecos League.

The Pecos League is process of attempting to form a Northern Division. Currently the Santa Fe Mountain Lions and Trinidad Triggers will play in the 2012 season in the Pecos League.
The Madrid Miners will be the 7th team and we play limited home games at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe. The Taos Blizzard of Northern New Mexico appear to be the most logical selection, Taos is perfectly located between Trinidad and Santa Fe. Taos has a new sports promotion department and has huge support for its state of the art Eco-Center Soccer Complex. Officials in Taos are optimist that they can get lights and beer in their facility. Currently their situation is almost identical to that of the Ruidoso Osos. A ski town, no lights, high school owned park, small population, but ideally located into emerging Pecos League Cities. Does the Pecos League need to goto eight teams for the 2012 season? If Taos is a no go then it will likely have six teams with Santa Fe and Trinidad joining the other four existing teams in the south. The Pecos League will be visiting Taos in the month of October.

Pueblo was slated to be the 4th team but that failed with possiblity of Pueblo West and too few dates for 2012 season.

Farmington New Mexico would not allow alcohol

Clovis wouldn't allow home games until June 18 despite having a vacant field and had no political support

Carlsbad has absolutely no support for anything and barely got Lowe's and Wal Mart to come to town much less a baseball team

Ruidoso was slated to remain in the Pecos League but this would have pushed Roswell to the Northern Division and drove travel costs up for everyone. Ruidoso still has no lights and no beer. They have great fans and are located in the middle of the Pecos League. The Pecos League plans to bring the Osos back into the Southern Division in 2013.

This also should be a note that every place the Pecos League scheduled Exhibition Games did not work get a team for the 2012 Season (Pueblo, Abilene, Carlsbad, and Clovis). And this will probably eliminate Exhibition games for the 2012 season.

The Southern Division has all returning teams with Las Cruces, White Sands, Roswell and Alpine Texas

Pueblo Colorado will not be in the Pecos League for the 2011 season.

Pueblo Colorado will not be in the Pecos League for the 2011 season.
With a board meeting with Runyon Park Officials and the Pecos League scheduled for Monday October 4th Dave Dudley decided it would be best for the Pecos League not to play in Runyon Park for the 2012 season.

"We needed more games in the month of August" said Dave Dudley director of Runyon Field.
In 2011 the Pecos League played until August 10th, but in 2012 the regular season will end July 31.
Existing schedule conflicts would have made the Wranglers hit the road for almost the entire month of June.
Pueblo has a summer college NBC Team, numerous High School Leagues and Softball Leagues that share the Complex.
The Pecos League joins numerous other independent leagues that have attempt to place a team in Pueblo unsuccessfully.
Due to the exteme isolation of Pueblo and high travel costs no other league has ever made it work.
Many people suggest the Pecos League attempt to play at CSU Pueblo.

"We gave it our full effort, we played three exhibiton games it just will not work.
Runyon was the only place we could have played in the 2012 season, Pueblo West will not be ready and CSU Pueblo was never an option.
Dave Dudley and his staff would have been a huge plus for the Pecos League right away, beer was not an issue the field was great. We hope to play in Pueblo West in the 2013 season. The support we were beginning to receive was great.
There is alot going on in Pueblo in the summer and this might be for the best. We will be in Trinidad about 80 miles South for anyone who wants to see a Pecos League Game in the 2012 summer." says Andrew Dunn Pecos League Commisioner. The Pueblo West Municipal District has met with the Pecos League about being the primary tenants of a new baseball complex they are building in the 2013 season.
Playing in Runyon in 2012 could have hurt those plans. Chris Paterson was originally slated to manage the Pueblo Wranglers now he is close to accepting the job in Santa Fe.
The Taos Blizzard (New Mexico) who replaced the Ruidoso Osos on the schedule will inherit Pueblo's Schedule and could play in the Pecos League in the 2012 season.

Ruidoso Osos placed on the inactive List

The Future of the Ruidoso Osos is uncertain. Effective immediately the Osos are going from an active team to an inactive team. The final straw for Ruidoso was the news that Jay Acton and the New York State League were being sued by Motel 6 Ruidoso for failure to pay for their rooms during two series during the season. As a result of this the New York State League will not participate in the Pecos League for the 2012 season. Jay Acton has had numerous heart operations within the last three months and does need problems from a travel team. Jay has been operating independent league teams since 1989 and operated the New York Federals in the Can-Am League.

According to head coach Ryan Powell the Carlsbad Bats were told their rooms were covered June 29 through July 1st. The Bats would be responsible for paying for rooms July 17th through July 19th. However on the night of July 18th Powell was notified by hotel management that his team was going to owe $2160 for both stays. Powell gathered his team and left the hotel immediately. The Bats choose to stay in Alamogordo for the final series of the season and never paid the hotel. The hotel ownership contacted the Osos team operator Billy Page and Billy stated the Bats were supposed to pay the bill. The hotel ownership then contacted the Pecos League office in attempts to get payment. That was again unsuccessful. Motel 6 was left to sue the New York State League and attempted to issue warrants on the players who stayed in the rooms. "We were notified by Billy Page and employees of the hotel that the rooms were paid for. Suddenly the owner of the hotel said we had to pay. I am sorry for the circumstances possibly lost in translation. You can't expect the visiting team to pay $2160 when the rooms were supposed to be paid for." says manager Ryan Powell.

The Osos also drove the cost of league insurance up by filing insurance claims that should not have been filed. The Osos also threatened not to appear at a Wednesday Night game in Las Cruces.

Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn states "Keeping Baseball in Ruidoso is becoming a huge challange, no lights, no beer, no where for the visiting team to stay, unpaid lease, unpaid bills, No clear answer on what will happen with lights, at this time it is time for the Pecos League to take a step back and look at Ruidoso for the 2013 season. 2012 is problem not in the best option. The first question is where is the revenue going to come from to even operate this team. I personally attempted to assist with lights but this might have worked out for the better. The best solution for Ruidoso is to build a completely new facility that is easier to get to and more accessible to Highway 70. The current location will never allow the sale of alcohol and is extremely difficult to find for tourists looking for the games. I think the best option is to build a baseball/soccer venue in Ruidoso or Ruidoso Downs with lights and alcohol sales similar to Roswell or Alamogordo. Installing Lights at White Mountain Park would not be the best option in the long run and would not be worth the investment. The people of the Villege of Ruidoso got to see the Pecos League first hand and know they want a winning team and a winning team will have to sell beer and have lights to be competitive financially. The Pecos League will continue to explore options in Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs."

There were no local funds or surplus of funds for the problems the Osos caused.
Billy Page was the lone reason the team stayed together at all.
Billy had an altercation with a player and resigned with two weeks left in the season.
The Osos stayed together and managed to nearly win the Pecos League Championship. Numerous players that will be playing in higher leagues got their start because of the Ruidoso Osos.

Casey Dill named Manager of the Las Cruces Vaqueros

Casey Dill has been named manager of the Las Cruces Vaqueros for the 2012 season. Casey is the 3rd manager in team history and is looking forward to beginning with the Vaqueros.
"I look forward to moving to Las Cruces and building the Vaqueros into a winner" says Dill.

"We are excited to welcome Casey to Las Cruces and look forward to helping him build the Vaqueros." says General Manager Miguel Salcedo.

"Casey brings young energy needed to keep the Vaqueros Tradition alive and get the Vaqueros into the Pecos League Playoffs in the 2012 season." says Andrew Dunn owner of the Vaqueros.

Casey Dill comes to Las Cruces after working six years with the Nor Cal Pirates as the Head Coach and Director of Baseball Operations.
Dill has always been involved in every aspect of the clubs progress. He is one of the clubs strongest All-Time players holding the record for most runs scored (275), most hits (322), most doubles (55), most home runs (13), and most stolen bases (128).
Even with his success as a player, Dill's best accomplishments to date have come in Player Development, moving many players into the professional baseball ranks and helping even more play higher levels of college baseball.
Brian Fowler, one of the top prospects to ever come out of the Pecos League played on Dill's 2010 club, boasting a 5-0 record with a 2.47 ERA.

Under Dill's command, the Pirates have been notably successful winning 5 Championship titles in 6 years.
Creating a winning atmosphere where everyone involved enjoys their collective and individual success. At the age of 27, he has been responsible for all baseball operations and players development since founding the team in 2006.
In addition to his duties with the Pirates, in 2009 and 2010 Casey Dill was an assistant coach for the Chico American Legion Program.

During that time he was also the Head Coach of the SSK All-American Team of the Goodwill Series which competed in the Team USA Labor Day Cup in Carey, North Carolina.
Tirelessly, Dill has worked as an assistant coach at Chico State and as a staff member at Mac's Professional Baseball School.
Most recently, Dill has established, developed and is the Head Coach of the Chico Colts, an off season development/scout team for college and professional baseball players to play competitively in their teams' off-season. '

The Wall will not fall in Del Rio...No Baseball in Border town.

The Pecos League for the 2nd year in a row will abandon efforts to have a team in Del Rio Texas.
This time it might be for good. The Pecos League is now expanding North and Del Rio is well out of the footprint of travel. In 2010 Del Rio was one of the original eight Pecos League Teams but Babe Ruth Baseball and the Mayor stopped the Pecos League from occupying Roosevelt Park. Roosevelt Park is used by Babe Ruth Baseball and is the only full size baseball park in Del Rio. In 2011 the Pecos League played two very successful games in Del Rio at Roosevelt Park.
One game was an exhibition game between Houston Apollos and Alpine Cowboys and a regular season game between the Alpine Cowboys and Carlsbad Bats. Both games were deemed extremely successful. Having a team in Del Rio would have extended the Pecos League into Texas and been a natural rival for the Alpine Cowboys.

Eddie Larkan was in charge of coordination of both games and did a fabulous job.
Mr Larkan was the leader of Border Baseball which was a group that attempted to bring the Pecos League to Del Rio.

The City of Del Rio did not take neccessary steps to support Mr Larkan or the Pecos League in time for the 2012 season to have a team.

The brick center field wall is currently 319 feet from home plate, it has to be a minimum of 385 feet to have a professional team occupy Roosevelt Park. Moving this wall would have also require adjustment of lighting and possibly removal of trees.

The Pecos League currently has 6 teams in New Mexico and Colorado which would have meant extremely long home stands and road stands for Del Rio and all teams would have had to had combination home stands with Alpine and Del Rio which would have been a negative on Alpine's home attendence.

Statement from Mr Larkan shown below

"It is time I give up my effort to bring professional baseball to Del Rio. Obstacles with scheduling and some needed stadium improvements have not progressed significantly and I realize you have to finalize schedules with teams committed to play in 2012.

Thank you for your attempts to locate a team in Del Rio and for providing the teams for two great baseball games here this summer. I wish you continued success as the Pecos League expands to other cities; I regret that Del Rio will not be one of them."

The Pecos League would like to thank Mr Larkan for his attempt and efforts in having a team in Del Rio, Texas.

Pecos League temporarily suspends efforts to land the Bats in Carlsbad

The Pecos League did not get a positive response from the City of Carlsbad for placing a team in Carlsbad in the 2012 season.
There is not a facility available right now for the Bats to play in. Caveman Corral will not suite the needs for a professional team.
Lea Street Park would need major renovations. Currently neither have the ability to sell alcohol. The Pecos League will play between 4-6 games in 2012 in Artesia which is easily close enough for Baseball Fans in Carlsbad to drive to game.

The facility in Artesia is 2nd to none in Southeast New Mexico. The Pecos League office has received numerous inquires about why there is not a full time team in Carlsbad. We do not control the facilities, it is up to the City of Carlsbad.
The Pecos League has successfully worked with 8 other cities in New Mexico and Colorado but we must have support for the local city government. In Carlsbad we do not have the support so we will not risk putting a team there.

Timeline of Carlsbad

8/10/2010 When the Pecos League was formed in 2010 Carlsbad was in the center of the league geographically, close to Alpine and within striking distance to all New Mexico Cities. Carlsbad was granted a team to play in the Caveman Corral. Carlsbad is often dubbed Baseball Capital of New Mexico.

1/5/2011 The original Pecos League Schedule had both Carlsbad and Clovis on it. Original talks went well with Jamie Bardoza from Carlsbad ISD. However in January the Carlsbad ISD Officials decided that they did not want a pro team in their town.

2/1/2011 The Pecos League was left with 5 teams and had a set of CB (Coastal Baseball Uniforms), the CB quickly turned into the Carlsbad Bats as a 100% travel team

6/29/2011 Father's Day weekend Alpine had a issue come up with Kokernot Field and the Pecos League needed to move the series somewhere. Jamie Bardoza said he would allow the Pecos League to play at his high school field.

6/30/2011 The Pecos League played 3 games in Carlsbad and had the worst attendence in the history of the league. The final game on Monday Night had around 70 people.

8/2/2011 The Mayor of Carlsbad and others insisted that support would be ok in Carlsbad if a team was brought in.

8/5/2011 The Mayor informed the Pecos League that alcohol would not be possible

9/16/2011 The Pecos League decided it has very limited support in Carlsbad and will attempt to place a team in Pecos Texas.

The Pecos League will consider putting a team in the so called "Baseball Capital of New Mexico" in future when it is believed the team will be fully supported.

If there is an outright travel team again the Pecos League will consider naming the team the Carlsbad Bats.

Artesia to host 4-6 Roswell Home Games in 2012 Season

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce the Roswell Invaders will play between 4-6 home games in Artesia in the Summer of 2012. This will be a win win for the Pecos League and the City of Artesia. It will allow the Pecos League to gauge the interest of Artesia supporting a full time team. It will also breakup some long home stands with 7 games in a row in Roswell. It will allow more fans along 285 to see the Invaders (Hobbs, Carlsbad and Artesia). It will also let the entire Pecos League see what a top notch baseball facility Artesia has. This could be the seed that lands the Artesia Drillers in the league for the 2012 season.
Artesia New Mexico is located in the center of the Pecos League footprint only 224 miles from Alpine, 37 miles from Carlsbad, 40 miles from Roswell and 110 miles across the Mountains from Alamogordo.

Last Team entry in American Association Website

The Pecos League Office has received many calls and emails about players that were promoted to the American Association and Frontier League not having the Pecos League listed as last team. Specifically with fan favorite Clifton Thomas. The Pecos League office has no control over this.

The American Association's and Can-Am league policy is list previous team as the 2010 team or College. This was confirmed with their office in North Carolina. See Fort Worth Cats and New York Federals

Pecos League Team settles numbers of the field

The 2011 season is in the books and teams are learning what they did right and what they did wrong. Financial the Pecos League had its ups and downs. Below are the rankings of how the Pecos League Teams did off the field

#1 The White Sands Pupfish were by far the biggest surprise, they had great support in the community, the best in game entertainment in the Pecos League, and made the most money at the concession stand with their municipal beer license and promos. Friday Nights in Alamogordo were the Pecos League's feature night. Almost no one gave the Pupfish a chance with its makeshift ballpark. However the fans loved it. The team did not lose money in 2011. The support is great and fans are ready for Spring Training in 2012. Fans can expect a great year in 2012. Teams Sponsors are jumping on board left and right and the Pupfish will be a stable in the Pecos League playoffs for many years to come.

#2 The Roswell Invaders had a mixed bag of ups and downs. All in all they were the 2nd most successful team in the Pecos League. The 2012 season was a huge success with the Pecos League Championship Trophy now residing in Roswell NM.
The Invaders sold nine times more merchandise than any team in the league with their alien green/navy theme would give any MLB team a run for their money..
Despite having the most sponsorships in the league, and actually leading the league in attendance, the Invaders made less of a profit than Alamogordo. The Invaders have the highest lease in the league by almost triple and despite winning the Pecos League Championship the City of Roswell does not have a municipal beer license. The future still looks bright in Roswell. Baseball Fever really didn't hit in Roswell until mid June and the run to the Championship has got fans and community leaders excited for 2012. Now that fans know they have a serious product, expect the Invaders to be just fine for the 2012 season and beyond.
#3 The Alpine Cowboys had their best year in the three years baseball has been in Alpine. Their 501 C3 formation, better opponents and the playoff race helped their support and they are looking forward to 2012 with possibility of Del Rio and Pecos getting local fans excited with regional rivals. The team lost minimal money in 2011. In 2012 a more balanced schedule will help the Cowboys even more as they were on the road nearly all of June.

#4 The Las Cruces Vaqueros were by far the biggest disappointment in the Pecos League.
The biggest city in the Pecos League forgot they had a team. The Vaqueros were handcuffed from day one when the City of Las Cruces declared their grandstand unsafe and replaced it with seating for around 100. The fans of Las Cruces showed their support clearly when owner Andrew Dunn brought in the El Paso Diablos for an exhibition game and 89 fans showed up. The Vaqueros also hired local coach Miguel Gomez but support got even worse. The strong pack of loyal fans was very disappointed at a lack of effort on and off the field. The Vaqueros could not get the same assistant coaches at the game every day and players became very frustrated with the situation. The Vaqueros front office was left no choice but to reduce payroll. Miguel Salcedo single handedly kept the team together. His golf tournament might have been a highlight for the summer.
Despite being the biggest city in the league it is by far the worst financially. Three of the teams sponsors pulled out in May stating they didn't have money in the budget. One of the main sponsors checks were NSF. The Vaqueros assembled an awesome game day staff that had great promotions. The Vaqueros packed the place for the last game of the season and fans have bombed the Vaqueros office with discontent over how the team was run this year. The future is brightest in Las Cruces, if they pass their municipal beer license Las Cruces will run away the attendance race year after year. There is no city in Colorado/Texas or New Mexico that can compete with Dollar Beer on Thursday Nights in Las Cruces. Their 2010 season proved that. The City of Las Cruces is in process of renovating the grandstands and the Vaqueros are going to offer many concession promotions in the 2011 season. So the Vaqueros have nowhere to go but up.

#5 The Ruidoso Osos were a complete disaster from day 1. It was obvious after the first three games it would be hard to keep fans for 4 hour games with no beer and no lights in the swirling winds of May. Games would start in the 70's and end in the upper 40's. Teams averaged 11 runs per game over the season. It rained every day in August. The Pecos League took a big hit keeping this team alive. Billy Page was the main reason the team stayed alive. But his baseball experiment ended with two weeks left in the season. The small fan base of around 75 fans that the Osos built is probably the most dedicated and loyal in the league. After Osos fever swept through Ruidoso and the team lost the championship game there is a big push to keep baseball in Ruidoso for the 2012 season. There is a currently a push for lights and although the Osos are not currently on the projected teams list there is a shot the Pecos League will bring them back. If financial conditions are met and the team is run tightly Ruidoso could have a team in the league. Beer likely won't happen near the school and with no lights it will be almost impossible.

#6 Carlsbad Bats-The Pecos League was warned not to goto Carlsbad in the beginning of the season because Carlsbad doesn't support events at all. But Alpine had a series that they couldn't host the Pecos League setup games in the so called "Baseball Capital of New Mexico". Carlsbad hosted a DH on the 29th and a single game on the 30th for a total of 3 home games. It is safe to say there won't be a 4th. Those three home games set records for fewest fans, hottest temperature (112) and highest winds. The Pecos League staff that worked the game wanted to cancel the 2nd days games. The Sports Editor in Carlsbad did a great job promoting the game and the Pecos League did their best to promote the game.
Attendance numbers of 13/34 and a high of 89 ended any shot of professional baseball in Carlsbad. Pecos League Commissioner Andrew Dunn has still tried to meet with Carlsbad Mayor about using Lea Street Park, but they can't allow beer there.

Statement of current status of Ruidoso Osos.

Many fans have contacted the Pecos League Office over the last week to ask why the Ruidoso Osos are not listed in the 2012 lineup.

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is considering bringing back the Ruidoso Osos for the 2012 season. The only way this will happen will be with the Osos being run in a league ran model similar to Las Cruces, White Sands and Roswell. Many people were confused about who was running/owning/operating the Osos.
Clyde Woods leased the Osos from the Pecos League. Clyde immediately realized he was not going to have a chance at making money so he resigned from team and abandoned his lease. Clyde gave warning before he did this. Billy Page was working for Clyde as a volunteer when Clyde resigned. Billy agreed to keep the team running until the Pecos League figured out who was going to run the team. Billy hired Tim Ferguson to replace Kevin Griffin as manager. Billy resigned with two weeks left in the season he had to report to football 2-a-days at his school. Tim Ferguson ran the team for the last two weeks including the playoff run. The Ruidoso Osos are owned by the Pecos League.

The Pecos League believes it made the right decision to let the team operate itself throughout the course of the 2011 season. This proved to be the right move as the Osos nearly won the championship. However going forward the Osos must be ran comparable to the other New Mexico Based teams in the Pecos League. The Pecos League Office will make all attempts to keep a team in Ruidoso but no decisions have been made on field leases, players, coaches, general managers, staff or other personnel. The Pecos League is currently in process of meeting with other cities throughout the region and will attend a meeting in Ruidoso on September 8th. The Pecos League had to endure a large financial burden to keep the Osos alive in 2011. The Osos can live on in 2012 if conditions are met that the Village of Ruidoso and the Pecos League agree upon.

Maybe it is #27 Clint Stroud?

The Pecos League will be auctioning their game worn jerseys starting as low as $50.
Many fans fought over the #15 Ernie Munoz and the #24 Clifton Thomas Jersey all year.
Fans immediately bought out the jerseys when they hit the shelves.

Baseball a no go in Clovis

It appears to Clovis Pioneers will not be playing in the Pecos League in 2012.
The Pecos League has failed on three attempts to put a team in Mike Harris Park in Clovis New Mexico. Mike Harris Park is a city owned facility that would allow the Pioneers to sell beer at games. The Pecos League played an exhibition game in 2011 in hopes of generating interest for a team in 2012. The game went ok and the local interest was strong in having a team. Mike Harris Park is unavailable the month of June due to a youth league that uses the field. Bell Park is the high school owned baseball facility in Clovis. It is by far a better surface and much better facility than Mike Harris Park.
Bell Park sits idle during the entire summer. The Pecos League's logical proposal would be for the Youth Teams to play at Bell Park on the nights when the Pioneers had home games. Mike Harris Park would have to be the primary field for the Clovis Pioneers of the Pecos League. "This is the number one city we wanted to goto. The support was great in 2011 when we announced we were coming town. I still believe if we would have played in Clovis it would have had huge support and been a great event for the community and the base. At this point we have offers to goto 13 cities in Southern Colorado, New Mexico and West Texas and we need to move on." says Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn
The Pecos League attempted to get the Youth League to switch to Bell Park which is a much better school district owned facility. The Pecos League was working in conjunction with Bill Bizzell, Joe Thomas and Gayla Brumfield.

The Story of the Ruidoso Osos

In January 2011, the inaugural Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs schedule was released.
The Clovis Pioneers, Roswell Invaders, Carlsbad Bats, Las Cruces Vaqueros, Alpine Cowboys and White Sands Pupfish were the original six teams.
Suddenly Clovis Manager John Harris left for Amarillo of the American Association and Clovis was in trouble.
Clovis city officials announced the Pioneers could not play home games at Mike Harris Park due to a 13-14 year old league that would not give up dates.
This left the Pecos League in serious trouble, forced to used Bell Park, owned by the Clovis ISD.
In a January 13th meeting, Clovis ISD officials informed Andrew Dunn the lease for a 40-game season would be $35,000 and alcohol would not be allowed.

This left the Pecos League is a hole needing a 6th team to balance the schedule. Dunn quickly began to scramble and researched into Bisbee Arizona and Ruidoso New Mexico.
Ruidoso made the most sense nestled directly in between Roswell and Alamogordo. The Village of Ruidoso quickly reacted and responded to the Pecos League Request. The Osos inherited the Clovis

Pioneers schedule which included the inaugural Pecos League Game on May 10th a day earlier than all other games. The Osos were leased to Clyde Woods who attempted to operate the Osos.
Woods lasted less than three weeks as he did not get the supported he felt he needed to continue efforts. Billy Page assumed the team and kept the Osos the alive. Page had to make a manager move

bringing in Tim Ferguson to replace Kevin Griffin as manager. With two weeks left in the season Billy Page left the team due to problems he had with respect from the players. Tim Ferguson managed

the two the last two weeks and in the playoffs. The Osos roster remained stable throughout the season, they had the fewest transactions in the Pecos League and kept a stable roster.

The Osos battled through the rest of the regular season and finished in the three spot in the Pecos League.
The Osos made quick work of the White Sands Pupfish in the first round sweeping the Pupfish two games. The Osos ulitmately lost in the final game of best of three series to the Roswell Invaders.
The support for the Osos was shown by the number of Osos fans who traveled on the road to Roswell to support their quest for the title.
Support for the Osos locally was huge despite no lights, no alcohol and limited crowds.
The Ruidoso host families quickly become attached to their players and their teams and Oso Nation quickly was born. The osos had natural rivals across the mountains with White Sands and Roswell.
The Osos players held on through tough circumstances and although the future of baseball in Ruidoso may be in question. 2011 was the year of the Oso!

Osos sweep Pupfish in playoff series 2-0

The Ruidoso Osos Championship Mission continued on Saturday Night.
The Osos shutout the White Sands Pupfish 7-0 to complete a two game sweep in the best of three game series.
Jason Hyland carried the Osos the entire series with a huge game winning hit in the 9th inning of Game 1.
Jonathan Means hit a grand slam which broke the game completely open.
Hyland went 4-4 with 3 rbi's in the 2nd game. The Osos got another shutout from Chris Welborn which is his third of the season.
In game 1 Mike Jackson Jr. pitched 8 innings to outlast the Pupfish. Andrew Plotkin came in for a save to hold off the Pupfish.
The Pupfish never got started offensively. The Osos defense turned three double plays and was solid in both games.
Ruidoso will await the winner of Alpine and Roswell tonight in Roswell. Should Alpine win the two teams will play a 5 game series with the first two games being in Ruidosos and the final three games being in Alpine beginning Tuesday.

Playoff Preview Alpine-Roswell

Playoff Preview Alpine-Roswell
Alpine vs Roswell Friday-Saturday-Sunday at Coca cola Park 7PM MST.
Season Series split 4/4.
These two teams are expected to have quite a battle in the first round.

Alpine looks to ride the pitching of aces Scott Shimek and Alfredo Caballero.
Brian Hobbs will serve as the closer in the playoffs. Former Carlsbad Bats Bryant Asnicar and Steve Merslich look to be anchors in the bullpen.
Offensively the Cowboys will go with Tyler Hicks, Jason Simone, Kyle Wells, Nacho Ochoa, Andrew Riddick as their top 5 hitters.
James Kono will anchor the defense at Shortstop. Austin Newell, Zach Welch and Javier Arrieta will round out the Cowboy Lineup. The Cowboys had the fewest transactions in the Pecos League. Coach Ryan Stevens has kept things together for a competitive club.
The Cowboys won the the Continental League in 2010 but it will be a much steeper task to beat Roswell and to beat the winner of Whites Sands/Roswell back to back.

The Roswell Invaders boast the leagues deepest pitching staff and best bullpen. The Invaders also have the league's MVP in Clifton Thomas.
Trivon Howard, Justin Uribe and Brian Ramirez have rotated in the other outfield spots. Brycen Bell is the teams every day shortstop.
Josh Cakebread will play 2b. Joey Friedman will catch. Adrian Martinez will be DH and backup catcher. Matt Palko will play 3b. Josh Grady will serve as closer.

Vaquero Hunters the Alpine Cowboys

Vaquero Hunters the Alpine Cowboys

For the 2nd season in a row the Alpine Cowboys have ended the season of the Las Cruces Vaqueros.
In 2010 the two teams tied in the regular season and Alpine won the best of 3 playoff series 2 games to 1 to capture the final Continental Baseball League Championship.
In 2011 Las Cruces and Alpine fought for the final playoff spot and Alpine ultimately won the spot ending Las Cruces season. Ryan Stevens was the manager both times and it gives the Vaqueros incentive to focus on all games with Alpine in 2012 and beyond.
This is assuming the two rivals wind up in the same division in the new expanded Pecos League. Ryan Stevens wants to rivalry to continue that is for sure.

Roswell Lands in First Place with their biggest Crowd

Alot of new sports team have their largest crowds on opening night and the fans never return. There is always large hype with something new. In the Pecos League that has not been the case. Both Alamogordo and Roswell have been at the top of the Pecos League attendance and have had their largest crowds during the middle of the season. Last night with attendence of around 764. The stadium can comfortably hold around 400, this forced both sidelines to be filled. The team has averaged around 330 per night which has been better than expected. Joe Bauman was jumping with an organ player, cold beer and the Invaders in Lime Green Jerseys. The Invaders did not disapoint winning 3 of 4 games from a hot Carlsbad Team. If the season were to end today Roswell would host best of three playoff series and if they won the series they would host the Championship Series.

Pecos League to host Spring League March 5-28 in Houston Texas.

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs will host a developmental Spring League in Houston Texas. The Pecos League will be at either 6 or 8 teams in the regular season of 2012 and will be seeking players. "In the 2011 season we signed around 45 players from various winter leagues and so we decided to have our own winter league with players specifically wanting to come to our Winter League." says Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League.
There will be between 4-6 teams, we have one team made up entirely of players from New York State put together by New York Federals owner Jay Acton.
we have proposals from teams in Australia and Canada to send entire teams as well.
Currently Pecos League Managers Chris Paterson and Keith Essary will be invited to coach at these camps. The Camps are a win-win for players who can improve their skills while attempting to get picked up by professional teams. The Pecos League is the lowest cost developmental league in the US.

Adam Osteen signs with Arizona Diamondbacks

Adam Osteen was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks today. He was scouted at the leagues all star game with his fastball ranging from 93-96.
He is the first player in the brief history of the Pecos League to be signed by an affliated team. The Pecos League was contacted by the Diamondbacks Wednesday Morning and two hours later had a deal to send Osteen to Scottsdale, Arizona to begin working out in Diamondbacks Camp.
"This is good" says Keith Essary who has suddenly become a hot spot for higher level teams to sign players. Adam was 1-2 witha 6.91 ERA in 15 games for the Pupfish. "This is another step forward for the Pecos League. I am glad for Adam." says Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League.

Who's Hot and Who's Not

Who's Hot and Who's Not:

Roswell in the hottest team in the Pecos League winning 18 of their last 22 games, they have snook up on White Sands for the Leagues Best Overall Record. They have had consistant offense and pitching

White Sands- the Pupfish split series down the middle with Ruidoso and Roswell but have won 4 in a row with the Vaqueros with more games coming. The Pupfish have turned over their roster and are staying on top of the standings.

Ruidoso-The Osos split an 8 game series with the Vaqueros and split a 4 game tilt with White Sands. They have struggled head to head against Roswell. This week will be a test with games at Las Cruces and hosting Alpine the next..

Las Cruces-10 of their last 12 and losing their two top pitchers Sean Keeler and Luis Carreras. The Vaqueros have really tapered off at the plate as well...Two weeks ago the Vaqueros were in first place with the leagues best offense, now they are in third place looking for ways to score runs. The Vaqueros have struggled at the gate all year with reonvations to their ballpark coming in the fall.

Alpine-the Cowboy are fighting for 4th place and took 3 of 4 from Las Cruces as well as sweeping Carlsbad in Carlsbad. The cowboys have a big series coming up with Las Cruces and with Ruidoso.

Carlsbad-the team has completely turned around since Ryan Powell took over, they split series with both Las Cruces and Alpine. They won 1 game against Ruidoso. The Bats have blown leads late in three games and now no team is looking past them.

For the first time in Pecos League history a game was rained out.
The rainout occured at White Mountain Park at Ruidoso.
"It started to rain and thunder and lightning and we had to delay the start time, we have a limited window with 4PM start times, if games don't start by 4:30, then we have to postpone." The other Pecos League Cities are begging for rain, it hasn't rained in Roswell since November, residents in Alamogordo and Las Cruces don't remember the last time it rained. "I didn't know it rained here" says manager Ryan Powell...Game will be made up tommorow as a doubleheader.

Pecos League cancels games vs College Teams.

The Pecos League had originally agreed to play games vs the New Mexico College League on set off days during the season. The games were designed to allow the College teams to play against Pro Players and to let the Pro Teams work some guys into the games. With the exception of the Las Cruces Aggies none of the college teams showed up for a single game this year. The West Texas Outlaws were the latest in a list of no shows on Monday as they no showed the Roswell Invaders in what was supposed to be a 5:05 Start.
The Las Cruces Vaqueros never heard from the Bisbee Copperkings.
The New Mexico College Teams had request games vs Roswell, Ruidoso and Alamogordo. They no showed all 6 of their dates and only appeared in Las Cruces. "I believe these teams didn't realize how much it would cost to travel and didn't have enough pitching to play against Pro Caliber teams. Had they played against these pro teams there would have had to make sacrifices in their regular summer schedules by holding back arms." The Pecos League will only consider scheduling serious college summer teams in the future.

Things weren't so great for Carlsbad, John Masklee allowed 8 runs in 3-2/3 innings. John Bonifacini came out of the bullpen and allowed 9 runs on 5 walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Ryan Powell spells "Wins" for Carlsbad

The Carlsbad Bats started the season 0-24 under manager John Aber.
The New York State League dismissed Aber before the 2nd Alpine Series.
Starting Catcher Ryan Powell was named manager and promised to improve the teams situation.
Since then the Bats have taken the field with a storm.
Despite being swept in their only home series in Carlsbad the Bats have played .500 ball
splitting series in Alpine against a solid Alpine team and taking the first two games of the Las Cruces Series against previously undefeated Vaqueros. "These guys are starting to hit, they are playing like it is their last day because it might be." says Las Cruces Vaqueros General Manager Miguel Salcedo

Carlsbad is also losing players who are getting called up the New York State League's Federals Team in the Can-AM League.
Powell released several players and turned around the attitude in Carlsbad.
"The league is tougher than people believed" says former Carlsbad shortstop Arturo Ledesma who got called up to the Can-Am League.
Carlsbad will continue to play as a travel team with hopes of landing in Carlsbad in 2012 season. The
Bats have completely rebuilt their lineup in the last week.

Pecos League Statement on Loser Leaves Town Fight in Alamogordo

The White Sands Pupfish and the Pecos League would like to release the following statement regarding the incident between the Pupfish and a local Alamogordo Softball Team on
6/13/2011. According to Alamogordo police report
the softball team challanged the Pupfish to a fight in the parking lot and he also
challanged the Pupfish to a $1,000 softball game in a loser leaves town match. A fight broke out inside the bar area and was taken outside in the parking lot. Several of the Softball players were injured, no Pupfish players were injured.

The Pupfish and the softball team were running into each other at Applebee's which is one of the only restaurants open after hours.
Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn met with Applebee's manager Traci Cullers on 6/20/2011 to confirm the team was no longer welcome.
Traci Cullers said "The Pupfish and the softball team are welcome at Applebee's. We do not block them or prevent them from coming back."
Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn says "We cannot have incidents like this happening.
I have investigated the incident and met with Traci.
At first we were going to ban the Pupfish from going to Applebee's but with cooperation of
Traci and other restaurants in Alamogordo open after 10PM, we will allow players to re-enter Applebee's."
We ask the citizens of Alamogordo to read the police report before making any judgements about the team.

Alpine sweeps Carlsbad's only home series.

Alpine sweeps Carlsbad in Carlsbad New Mexico.
The Pecos League played its first neutral site series in league history in Carlsbad New Mexico.
The event served its purpose but could not have been under worse scheduling conditions.
The teams played a Sunday Father's Day doubleheader that began at 4:05 with game time tempuature at a cool 106 degrees.
The cross winds were blowing at around 30 mph. The infield grass was so high players couldn't tell what color shoes they were wearing.
Attendence wasn't the best at the three game series but it at least introduced the city of Carlsbad to the Pecos League.
Many fans and people in the community took notice and this should be the stepping stone for the getting a team in Carlsbad in the 2012 season.
The team would have to occupy the ballpark complex built on Lea Street. "We were very happy with the support from Mayor, Newspaper and Regional Businesses"

Finally the offense stopped in Ruidoso... Roswell and Ruidoso ran out of daylight. 17-17 game was ended due to darkness. The game will be resumed July 4th at 2:00 PM in Roswell.
The players stats will not be recorded in Fantasy Baseball or in League Stats unless Pointstreak has a way to finalize their standings.
Drew Peterson was 5 for 7 in the game, Case Rigby was 6 for 6. Jerome Dunning was 3 for 5. Those hitters wish the game would count. However starter Yoshii Machida of Roswell gave up 7 runs in the bottom of the first without getting an out.
Reed Brown allowed 14 hits and only 9 runs in 6 innings... Chad Nelson allowed 10 runs in 3 innings.Box Score Here

Carlsbad we have a victory!

Carlsbad we have a victory! Bats win 3-1 at Alpine on Friday Night

There was a quiet explosion of celebration tonight in Alpine as the Carlsbad Bats finally won a game. After a 24 game skid that had several close games, the Bats finally kept one together and finished it. John Masklee pitched 7 innings for the win. Jeff Forgerson drove in two runs and Bryant Asnicar finally got his chance to be used as a closer. Things are going to be tighter from here on out from the Bats. The Bats are sending a message to the rest of the league to be taken seriously or playoff position could be in jeopardy. Manager/Catcher Ryan Powell said "Finally we get this off our back, we have all played before and won before, this league is tougher than people realize" Powell has quickly turned things around for the Bats, the Bats almost won his first game as manager. Carlsbad is gearing up for its only home series of the year, in the Caveman Corral in Carlsbad New Mexico on Sunday/Monday.

Pecos Attendence Highs and Lows

The Pecos is 1/3 of the way complete with the Regular Season attendence has been an interesting issue...

Carlsbad has 0 zero attendence as a travel team and thus 0 wins. They will host a series June 19 and June 20 and attempt to get their first wins of the season.

Alamogordo-White Sands is averaging close to 325 fans per game they are in first place
Ruidoso played the season knowing it would be a year of establishment playing day games with no alcohol. They are averaging over 120 on weekend games...
"Alamogordo is a great atmosphere to watch a game, Griggs Park really came together well...I would have never imagined a pro team much less a team of this caliber in Alamogordo, I will do anything I need to do to keep the team here..." says Eric Rogers. Eric also claims to be the teams number one fan.

Roswell is averaging close to 320 fans per game they are in 4th place.
"I never believed they would actually put a team here and I am very pleased with the league, they will have some bumps in the road but the Invaders are here to stay" says
Mitchell Johnson. The Invaders are making their money selling merchandise they have sold 10 times the amount of merchandise of any other team combined, with their super cool R Alien hats and lime green look, casual fans have raided the teams store online.

Alpine does not release their attendence numbers but they have the highest travel expenses and host hotels in the league, however they are the oldest most established team in the league. "Being a better league is helping us, having all home games in May and being on the road in June did not help us. We compete for fans with high school playoffs" says coach Ryan Stevens.

Las Cruces has been the biggest disapointment in the league. The Vaqueros have an excellent ball club with great hitting, pitching and defense and a local coaching staff.
The Vaqueros in their 2nd year in a much better league than the continental League they joined in 2010. Fans have just not came out, they are averaging around 135 per game which is a huge disapointment considering Las Cruces has double the population of every other city in the Pecos League. The team expects to see increased attendence in July.
"I think the grandstands scared people but we are 1/3 of the way through the season and fans aren't coming to the games. I realize we are in our 2nd year and the new has worn off but we should have more than 135 per game...There are many people that warned me Las Cruces doesn't support things well when we came here...The team will play here in 2012 and beyond regardless of attendence. Attendence and sponsorship will determine the budget we have to work with. Las Cruces fits perfectly in the Pecos League and should be a leader on and off the field every year...The players have interacted with the community. I am shocked to see Alamogordo and Roswell outdraw Las Cruces 3 to 1." says owner Andrew Dunn

Ruidoso GM Billy Page says "We are just trying to break even and establish baseball and hope to be alive in 2012 with lights. The Baseball Part is the easy part. If I would have had started in December we would have been fine" Billy has done a great job since he inherited the club in the seasons third week.

Standings Tighten Up in the Pecos League

Things are tightening up in the Pecos League on Wednesday Night 4 games separate the first place team and the fourth place team. Roswell beat White Sands to move to 13-11, White Sands is now 17-7. Las Cruces beat Ruidoso to put both teams at 16-8. Alpine is ready to climb back into the race with 7 games in a row against Carlsbad. All six teams in the Pecos League are in search of higher quality arms. Seven day a week baseball and promotion of existing players to higher level leagues is the key issue to pitching shortage. The league will also be making a decision on the DH which may go into effect at the midway point of the season.

2012 Expansion Q and A

Grumblings have begun about what the exact future of the Pecos League will be for 2012 season. The League will be back and the Las Cruces, Roswell, White Sands, Alpine teams will function as is. Ruidoso will attempt to get lights in the off season.

The leagues number one priority is to get a team in the baseball capital of New Mexico. Carlsbad is passioniate about their baseball and it will be interesting to see how they attend the exhibiton game. Carlsbad will have to move into a permanent ball park in Carlsbad other than the Caveman Corral.

Del Rio Texas has a very strong local group, but stadium issues and availablity are the only thing slowing them down from having a team in 2012. They had a great turnout in the exhibition game hosted by Eddie Larkin.

Odessa Texas has no lights but sits in the center of what would be an Eastern Division of Carlsbad, Alpine, Del Rio.

Clovis New Mexico will hold an exhibiton game on July 28th to gage interest and is the front runner in New Mexico to get a team.

Pueblo Colorado would be the leagues biggest city and has great facilities and support for a team, distance is going to be issue linking to the teams in SE New Mexico.

Bisbee Arizona-was one of the Original Pecos League cities, with questions about finances to move the team out of NBC Ball into Pro Ball looming it appears to be a long shot to have a team in Bisbee. Only Alpine has a finer more historic ball park in the Pecos League.

silver City NM- would be ideal if Bisbee joined but unlikely to support a team.

The league has also received outside requests from Las Vegas, NM, Farmington, NM, Rio Rancho, NM and Albuquerque, NM

The Pecos League hopes to be at 8 teams without a travel team for the 2012 season.

Baseball lands in Del Rio's Roosevelt Park

Pro Baseball landed in Del Rio on June 13th as the Alpine Cowboys beat the Houston Apollos 7-4 in front of a capacity crowd estimated at 731 at Roosevelt Park.. The game was tied 3-3 in the 6th inning when Alpine broke the game open with an Austin Newall double, Nathan Skeen single and the big blow was Mike Marion home run.
Mike's homer easily cleared the 320 foot fence in center field. This was the deadest air these players have seen despite the short fences the ball did not travel at 800 foot elevation like the thin air of New Mexico. Eric Williams Jr. won the dancing competition after the game, he turned a complete flip and did the helicopter, Alpine had no answers for this...
Brian Fowler served as the coach of the Houston Apollos which was a team of 2 Houston Apollos, 11 Roswell Invaders and 5 Carlsbad Bats. Each team threw one pitcher per inning and the game moved at a great pace.
Eddie Larkan organized the game and set a great stage for the residents of Del Rio of what the Pecos League could be like in 2012... Stadium Issues and Political Issues stille exist but the future looks bright in Del Rio.

Alex Castillos head to San Angelo from White Sands

Alex Castillos headed to San Angelo Colts of North American League. Alex pitched three times for White Sands and he has promoted to a higher level league.
"Alex had offers from 5 teams" said Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn. 3 of the teams were in the American Association, 1 team in Frontier League and the San Angelo Colts.
San Angelo has a stable staff and a history of taking players from the Pecos League (Gorman Romero, Eddie Brown) and a quality coaching staff in Doc Edwards/Bobby Brown.
Brown managed Las Cruces in 2010 and is constantly looking for upgrades to the San Angelo team, Doc Edwards has a legency as a manager 2nd to none in independent baseball and will provide a great opportunity for Alex to progess back into affliated ball.
The Pecos League is now fielding calls on a daily basis from higher budget independent teams.

Alamogordo=First Place!

Alamogordo is in first place! This is phrase many in New Mexico are not used to hearing.
But in the Pecos League the upstart White Sands Pupfish lead the Pecos League by 1 game with their 2nd one run victory in a row against Alpine.
Pupfish lead league in pitching with a 5.24 ERA and 179 batters struck out.
The Pupfish are 2nd to only Ruidoso with a .337 team batting average.
They have 26 Home Runs...Several higher level independent teams have contacted the Pupfish with interest in outfielder Andrew Riddick and pitchers Chris Nyman and Alex Castillos.

Nothing can slow down the Osos

Nothing close slow down the Osos, they are feisting on teams in the Pecos League, undefeated at home and now the Osos took 3 of 4 from Alpine on the Road and beat Roswell again in Roswell.
A huge management change has only seemed to bond the Osos closer. The rugged Osos love the New Mexico climate.
"I haven't seen these guys make an error yet" says Dave Jones a Roswell Invaders Fan.
Manager Kevin Griffin's car broke down on Monday Night that is about the only thing that didn't go right for the Osos who got another quality start from Alan Gatz, home runs from Anthony Phillips, Jerome Dunning and Kip Masuda.
Drew Peterson continued his lead off approach with multiple hits. "No one can figure out who is who because their stats are a disaster" says Andrew Dunn. The Osos lost Eddie Brown to San Angelo and Joe Schamaci to the Frontier League.
Leo Madrid is believe to be leading the league in apperences although the stats can't verify this. "He's pitched every game I have seen them play" said another Roswell Fan. Ruidoso is 12-6, they have yet to play a game against first place Las Cruces or Last Place Carlsbad.

Pitchers ERA beware of Ruidoso's White Mountain Park.

Ruidoso Osos play at elevation 6930 more than 2000 feet higher than Denver's Coors Field.
This thin air have lead the Osos to a huge start in the Pecos League winning 5 of their first 6 home games and averaging 16 runs at home while only averaging 3 runs per game on the road at lower altitudes.

The dimensions of the field are standard for a professional baseball field 335 down lines 395 to center. But because the field is at such high altitude the ball soars. "I play two steps in front of track." says left fielder Anthony Phillips.

When it was announced Ruidoso was the final team in the Pecos League for the inaugural 2011 season alot of people were excited. Ruidoso was the only city in New Mexico that outsiders actually know due to its high tourist population. It was dubbed as the Highest Altitude baseball in North America. The Altitude has only been the beginning of the offensive surge delivered by the Ruidoso Osos at their home park this season. Today the Osos split with the Alpine Cowboys in what was their first home loss of the season. They were 5-0 entering today at home. They were averaging 16 runs a game at home...With the home and home staggered schedules with Roswell and White Sands many starting pitchers have begged their managers not to start in Ruidoso. "It isn't just the altitude, it is all day games, rock hard infield and mountain cross winds that gust up to 35 mph" says Andrew Dunn Pecos League Commisioner. With rotating home games between White Sands/Ruidoso and Roswell/Ruidoso players are begging their managers not to start the Ruidoso game. One start in Ruidoso can inflate a pitchers ERA for the entire season. "I have had several pitchers beg not to have to start there" says manager Keith Essary of the White Sands Pupfish, The Pupfish got swept in Ruidoso, but swept the Osos in Alamogorodo.

Pro Baseball Returns to Carlsbad New Mexico

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce the Carlsbad Bats will be playing a home series in Carlsbad, NM. June 19th the Carlsbad Bats will host the Alpine Cowboys at 4:05 PM and 7:05 PM in Carlsbad at Caveman Baseball Field. 3000 West Church Street. Carlsbad NM 88210. The Carlsbad Bats of the Pecos League will serve as the home team in Carlsbad, NM. The Alpine Cowboys will serve as the road team. This is the closest road game Alpine has ever played in the 3 year history of their team and is an ideal location for this series and a potential for a Pecos League Team in 2012.

"The Pecos League is off to a solid start and in 2012 we are looking to add two markets. Carlsbad is supposedly the baseball capital of New Mexico, and the Pecos League is a professional baseball league based in New Mexico. One who would think the community would support an independent Professional Baseball Team." says Andrew Dunn Commisioner of the Pecos League. "Finally a game where we bat last, and we get to see Carlsbad the place we are trying to represent" says Jay Acton General Manager of the New York State League. "This is our closest road trip ever" says Bob Ward who has been involved with the Alpine Cowboys since their rebirth in 2009. Carlsbad is the central point of the Pecos League on the map. The Pecos League named the travel team "Carlsbad Bats" for the 2011 season in hopes of having the team stationed and practicing out of Carlsbad. There were questions in the 2011 season about field availability in Carlsbad. So the team had Spring Training in Houston and is currently stationed in Las Cruces. July 1 the team will move to Roswell.

The Carlsbad Potashers last played in 1961 in the same footprint as the current Pecos League. They played against Alpine and Roswell in the Longhorn League. Much has changed since 1961 but some things are still the same.

This is one of several neutral site series the Pecos League will play this season. Carlsbad New Mexico is located in Eddy county, 165 miles East of El Paso on Highway 62.
The Pecos River travels through Carlsbad.

Billy Page named GM of Ruidoso Osos

Billy Page has been named GM of Ruidoso Osos.
Clyde Woods has resigned from his position of General Manager of the Ruidoso Osos. Billy has been with Osos since day 1 and brings
The Osos are off to a great start at 7-5 and just took 3 of 4 games from Alpine including two 1-0 shutouts. Woods felt overwelmed with the responsibilities of running a team with no night games and no alcohol. I am very proud of Kevin Griffin and the Ruidoso Osos. I feel that without night games and alcohol it would be tough to compete in attendence with hot spots such as Roswell and Alamogordo. I hope baseball works here in Ruidoso. The Pecos League is not concerned with the situation in Ruidoso. There will be a meeting on Tuesday May 31, 2011 to determine who will take over General Manager operations. The Pecos League has numerous groups looking to step in with the great start the league is off to. The Pecos League is still 100% committed to Ruidoso and the Osos will have no problem obligating their schedule..

Home Field Advantage taken to extreme measures in the Pecos League.

Home Field Advantage taken to extreme measures in the Pecos League.

There have been 24 home games in the Pecos League 23 have been won by the home team.
If this continues Carlsbad won't win but three games all year. Carlsbad is 0-8 without playing a single home game. The Bats have played the two established teams Las Cruces and Alpine and haven't come close to winning a game, they have been in most of the games

Roswell won the only road game of the year beating Alpine 7-0. They lost 2 at Ruidoso and lost 3 at Alpine, they can't wait to get back to Roswell next week to host Cruces.
"It's brutual on the road. Someone needs to check the umps" says manager Chris Paterson

White Sands has played three home games winning all and losing every other road game played. "Our fan support and atmosphere is 2nd to none" says manager Keith Essary.

Ruidoso has won all 4 home games losing the other 4 home games.
Offense is so explosive for the Osos in Ruidoso they have scored at least 15 runs in every home game. On the road they have scored no more than 5 runs in any game

Las Cruces has quietly won all 7 home games it has played dropping one contest at White Sands. Alpine has won 7 games despite dropping one home game to Roswell..

With such wide ranging facilities altitudes and umpires players often feel like they are in different countries when they are only miles apart. The terrain, altitude and field conditions between Las Cruces, Alpine, Ruidoso, Roswell and Alamogordo couldn't be more different.

Ruidoso Osos 18 Roswell Invaders 13-The first ever game in the Pecos League was played in Ruidoso New Mexico on 5/10/2011. The Ruidoso Osos outslugged and outlasted the Roswell Invaders 18-13 in front of many new and curious baseball fans.
Not only was the game played at 7000 feet elevation the infield was as hard as cement and there was a head wind blowing out to centerfield at aroune 35 mph. This was the ultimate hitters game Jerome Dunning lead the way for the Osos going 4-5.
Drew Peterson had three hits. Leo Madrid threw 3 innings only allowing 1 run picking up the win for the Osos. The Invaders worn Lime Green Pants and Navy Jerseys for the inaugural game. The Osos worn brown jerseys and creme pants on their side.
The winds were extreme and caused the two teams to combine for 32 games. The Pecos League truly lived up to its name of high power offenses are fueled by high altitudes and smaller ballparks.
How bout them Cowboys

How bout them Cowboys?

Rev. Barry A. Zavah

The signature "06" gates of Kokernot Field herald a third season of family-friendly, now Alpine Cowboys action, in community-oriented independent professional baseball. Opening Day is set for Wednesday, May 11th at 7:05 PM; the first contest of a 4-game opening series against the Carlsbad Bats. Founding teams in the new Pecos League of Professional Baseball League include our Cowboys and their opponent Bats, arch-rival Las Cruces Vaqueros, Roswell Invaders, Ruidoso Osos and White Sands Pupfish.

Gone is the defunct Continental League. Yes, times moved along, but the character and charm of Herb Kokernot, Jr.s beloved ball diamond hasnt. Its a great place to enjoy the game of baseball; which holds more timeless memories than a 160 gig hard drive.

What a difference a year makes! A new league and dedicated local ownership brings enthusiasm as well as pure and simple love of the game back to Kokernot. The Alpine Cowboys Baseball Association; operating as a 501(c) (3) "not-for-profit", is run committed to doing things right. This IS a community effort; whose purpose is more than fielding a pro club. A dedicated board of volunteers aims to keep the tradition of baseball and softball alive in Alpine-Big Bend.

Cheers echoed in the community with the return of pro ball that glorious Sunday in May, 2009. They didnt stop until the former Big Bend Cowboys won the Continental League Ferguson Jenkins championship to close a dramatic 3 game series against the Las Cruces Vaqueros. Last years baseball Cowboys played their competitive hearts out and it showed on the field.

Kokernot gates have already opened for spring training. The start of a new ball season is the promise spring time renewal with hope of championship glory in every locker. Hope springs eternal; but every team starts the new season with a 0-0 record.

Helping Hope along is the return of Coach Ryan Stevens, last years Assistant Coach and Interim Manager. Coach Stevens was at the helm for the championship series. Several from last years squad return, eager for a shot at a second championship.

Welcome back OF fan favorite Darryl Stanfield, Eric Garcia and Justin Lucero. His impossible, but true, catch in the outfield was one of the highlights of the championship series. IF Cody Collins, Javier Arrieta, Cody Jones and James Kono; former Continental League MVP, C Kyle Wells and P Mike Castrignano, Scott Schimek, Stephen Szkotak, Greg Denton and Reid Alfieri round-up the veterans.

Approximately 8 Cowboys moved to a higher level of independent ball documenting the quality of talent showcasing their skill in independent league baseball. A number of new faces vie for a spot on the 25 man roster. Included among them is Sul Ross grad, 1B Bill Tom Milburn.

A new group of sluggers, David Valesente, Mike Marion and Anderson Gardner should highlight the Cowboys infield and add runs to the scoreboard. Pitching prospects include flame thrower Brian Hobbs. Also look for good things to come from rookie prospects Nathan Skeen, Austin Newell and Taylor Getzke.

They and others make for intense competition battling for the final spots on the roster. Among them will be names shared with our children and grand-children, adding lore to that of our recent greats; such as Eric Williams, Cory ONeil, Nick Nacho Ochoa and Andrew Riddick.

When training camp breaks, were but 60+ well-played games away from putting a lasso around the new leagues championship. Do you remember the almost 50 years when that wasnt the way things were?

But now, the grand game of professional baseball has returned at a family-friendly price for a chair-back out of the Texas sun or a bleacher seat in the Texas sun. New concessionaires for food and the Saddle Club for beer promise to enhance our community atmosphere with quality unavailable elsewhere.

There isnt a bad seat in the house. Fans are a short walkway from on top of the action great seats. A Cowboys season ticket guarantees a choice among several prime locations. Ive a particular favorite, high under the covered grandstand along the third baseline.

Purchase some tickets and go on-line for a piece of Alpine-Big Bend baseball tradition. The team has a wonderful package of plans for businesses and the community to promote the team and sponsor a group night. Theyre looking for Host Families, too. Contact Alpine Cowboys at (432) 386-3402 or kristin@ellysonabstract.com.

Watching a game at about the lowest level in minor league baseball has been a wonderful experience. I hope it is just as memorable for the enthusiastic young men on the diamond as it is for those of us in the stands.

Were on the edge of our seats; enjoying ourselves and cheering on our Boys of Summer. Theyre on the field playing this game by the edge of their cleats, motivated by the love of something which calls them.

Isnt that how Big Bend called us? It is easy to appreciate why each of us is all the way out here.

See you at the games. Stop by my perch and ask: How bout them Cowboys?

Alpine Cowboys--Team Preview 2011

Team Preview Alpine Cowboys-
2011 will mark the 3rd year the city of Alpine will host a professional team in Kokernot Field. The Cowboys played in the championship series in both 2009 and 2010, winning the CBL in 2010 and losing to the Alexandria Aces in 2009 despite a marred playoff format with the Bay Area Toros. The Cowboys won what was a two team league in 2010.

Large Changes for the Cowboys include the following

Gone is the name Big Bend Cowboys, now known as Alpine Cowboys.

Gone are the red and green colors, the team will wear red and white.

Gone is the Continental Baseball League, the team now plays in the Pecos League.

Gone are the long travel distances (Texarkana, Alexandria, Houston) the longest distance is Ruidoso NM 338 miles

Gone are the out of town owners, the team is operated by a local group of 501 C 3 in non profit status

The Cowboys have invited several players from 2010 team back to spring training for 2011 including Anthony Gibbons, Cody Collins, Cody Jones,Darryl Stanfield, Eric Garcia, Giorgio Fuda, Greg Denton, Javier Arrieta, Justin Lucero, Kevin Foeman, Kyle Wells, Mike Castrignano, Nathan Molina, Reed Alfieri and Zach Welch.

Ryan Stevens will be the manager after being assist and interim manager in 2010. Expect big things from the Cowboys in 2011.

Las Cruces Vaqueros--Team Preview 2011

Team Preview Las Cruces Vaqueros-
2011 will mark the 2nd year the city of Las Cruces will host the a professional team in Apodoca Park. The City of Las Cruces has been hit especially hard by economic times but the support of the community for the Vaqueros remains.

Large Changes for the Vaqueros include the following

Miguel Gomez, Jeff Banegas and Effrain Lada will serve as Vaqueros coaches for the 2011 season. Gone is coaches Bobby Brown/Sean Kramer-Bobby will return to Alaska, Sean is pitching coach for San Angelo.

Gone are the powder blue pants. The team will wear white pants exclusively.

Gone is the Continental Baseball League, the team now plays in the New Mexico based Pecos League. The Continental League will always be the league that finally brought baseball to Las Cruces, but in the end it was very unstable with two travel teams and basically Las Cruces and Alpine knowing it was a two team league.

Gone are the majority of players from 2010 season, the Vaqueros better players were picked up by higher leagues throughout the course of 2010 season. Brandon Kelly, Mitch Saum and Steve Detweiller are the only three Vaqueros coming to camp off of the 2010 team. Coach Gomez and the Vaqueros staff did not want to be saddled with prior committments to players from 2010 season. So the Vaqueros have signed a very good team for 2011 season with new players.

Gone are the Desert Valley Mountain Lions and Coastal Kingfish- in are the White Sands Pupfish, Roswell Invaders and Ruidoso Osos.

Gone is the El Paso Based General management staff from 2010 season.
After receiving numerous complaints from fans, city leaders and the community the Vaqueros listened. The Vaqueros local management staff will be 100% Las Cruces Based and much more receptive to interaction with local businesses. The Continental League/El Paso based staff did not represent the Vaqueros properly in the Las Cruces Market with team operations or with promotions. The new Las Cruces Staff led by Claudia Castillo, Jeff Banegas, and Alyssa Gintant is much more professional, responsive and accessible than the 2010 staff.

Gone is the famed grandstand at Apodoca Park, deemed structurally unsound by structural engineers in August the City of Las Cruces has hustled and got things together in time for the start of the Vaqueros season, despite major shortages financially in City of Las Cruces Budget

Vaqueros open the 2011 in Cohen Stadium vs the Diablos May 8th and May 11th vs the White Sands Pupfish.

Team Preview Roswell Invaders

2011 will mark the 1st year the city of Roswell will host the a professional team in Coca Cola since the 1960's. The Invaders hope to get support from the community.
Chris Paterson has assembled a very good team expected to live at the top of the Pecos League Standings. The Invaders have made quite a splash for a team that has never taken the field. The Invaders lead the league in off season merchandise sales with their lime green and navy UFO look, the uniforms have been so popular the game jerseys have been on back order since April 10th. The R hats have sold 2nd most in the Pecos League to the Alpine Cowboys. The Pecos League plans to put a quality form of family entertainment on the field with the Invaders and have the Invaders as a fixture of summer activities in Roswell for many years to come. Roswell was the key expansion city in the formation of the Pecos League for the 2011 season. The Invaders play exhibiton opener vs the El Paso Diablos May 4th in El Paso, Regular Season Opener May 10th at Ruidoso, Home Opener May 13 vs Ruidoso and the Exhibition Opener for the San Angelo Colts on May 21 in San Angelo.

White Sands Pupfish Season Outlook

The Fish nets are up in the desert and the White Sands Pupfish report to Alamogordo for Spring Training May 4, 2011. Alamogordo's Griggs Park in the center location of the Pecos League, despite being isloated in the middle of the New Mexico Desert, the Pupfish have the best travel schedule in the league with fewest nights away from home. The Pupfish ballpark will be the most unique ballpark in the Pecos League with Fish Nets on both foul lines 100 feet off of the foul line and 40 feet high. These nets will be in play. The Pupfish are lead by manager Keith Essary who managed the Coastal Kingfish in 2009. Essary will be looking to silence critics that he can't win. Keith is bringing in an exciting team that he thinks will do well in altitude. The fans in Alamogordo can't wait for Spring Training to get start, opposing pitchers will wish they never saw Griggs Park with 30-50 mph constant winds blowing out to left field and 4600 feet altitude could cause for some high scoring games.

Carlsbad Bats Q and A with John Aber

The Carlsbad Bats are the travel team of the Pecos League and will be operated by the New York State League, The New York State League recently named John Aber manager.

John Aber has been playing organized baseball since 4 years old. He was born January 20, 1987 in Dover, NJ and grew up in Mount Upton, NY where he attended Gilbertsville- Mount Upton CSD and lettered in 3 sports. After graduating in 2005, John went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York and then transferred to Marywood University in Scranton, PA to finish his degree in criminal justice. While at Marywood John played baseball as a senior, making 19 appearances, and going 2-1, picking up a win in 3 relief innings against #11 nationally ranked Keystone College. Upon his departure from Marywood, he played in the New York State League in the 2nd session and was managed by Scott "Skip" Nathanson. He plans to attend the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Scranton PA in the future.

Questions for John

#1 How do you plan on winning and competing in the Pecos League?
1. As this new experience approaches me, I know I am taking on a huge responsibility. These kinds of leagues are pretty much the real deal. It's where decisions need to be made without a blink. The competition level is greater than most of these guys have ever played. In the short Spring Training days, my focus is to mold the best group of players together and see where they fit best to play as a team. It'll be a tough job to win games, but every Coach has some sort of advantage. In order to win games, my players will need to be mentally and physically prepared, come ready to play, and have fun. Hopefully it all works out in the end to a successful season.

#2 Have you ever been to Texas/New Mexico? How do you plan on making adjustment to altitude?
2. I have never been to Texas/New Mexico. With the high altitudes being a factor, I understand that I need to adjust quickly. Balls will be flying out of the park I suppose, but that will be a learning experience. 3 months is long enough to change the way I do things in order to make some sort of adjustment, so we will see.

#3 What is your overall expectations of Bats?
3. As a travel team in the Pecos League, The Carlsbad Bats will be the underdogs. We have new players on a new team, and in a new place. Modifications will have to be made by everyone. As the road team, we wouldn't have the advantage of a home crowd, or batting last to win a game. It's the challenge that everyone faces, but also what makes the game so great. If we play together, teamwork will pay off.

Apodoca Park nears ready status

As the season approaches the number one concern in the Pecos League has been the condition of Apodoca Park Grandstands. On 4/13/2011 the replacement grandstands were finally put into place. The grandstands are 6 rows deep but provide seating for close to 350 people. This gives Las Cruces Season Ticket holders a huge sign of relief. Due to limited seating for the 2011 season the season ticket holders will be given priority seating. The City of Las Cruces has been working days, nights and weekends to get this facility ready for the Vaqueros. The Vaqueros begin Spring Training at Apodoca Park on May 2nd before opening the exhibition season down I-10 against the Diablos at Cohen Stadium. Fans are invited to check out the Vaqueros in Spring Training. Vaqueros Operations Director Claudia Castillo says "Seeing the grandstands is a relief, it assures fans our season is getting off on the right foot".
Lights Camera Acton....

New York States League takes control of Carlsbad Bats.
Jay Acton of the New York States League and Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League have annouced that the New York State League will handle 100% of the on field player procurement and roster for the Carlsbad Bats.

The Bats will have Spring Training in Houston Texas May 5-8 and report to Alpine May 10th for their season opener. The Bats will not reside or play games in Carlsbad New Mexico in the 2011 season. They will serve as a travel team. The Pecos League will not be involved in finances or operations of the team in any manner.

The Bats will announce coaching staff on April 2, 2011.

About the Pecos League-
The Pecos League is an independent Professional Baseball League with 2011 teams in New Mexico and West Texas.

About the New York State League-
Today's NYSL was founded in 2006 and is a lower level independent baseball league. Generally speaking, its teams consist of players whose college eligibility is exhausted or of players who have been released from other pro teams and who are looking to work their way back up the pro baseball ladder. The NYSL is only for the hardcore baseball player. We play doubleheaders every day that begin at 8am.

"This is an ideal relationship, Jay Acton is running a another travel team in the Can-Am League and has high quality players who would love to spend their summer playing in New Mexico. This takes the burden of running of a travel team off of the hands of the Pecos League. Jay's players come prepared with proper attitudes and would love the opportunity to play in our league. We have had offers from several different groups to pickup the operations of the Bats, we feel it is in the best interest of the Pecos League both on the field and off the field to partner with the NYSL. " says Andrew Dunn commisioner of Pecos League.

Exhibition Games/Final Revisions to Pecos League Schedule

The Pecos League has seen changes since its original schedule release in January 2011. Mainly the Clovis Pioneers exiting the league and being replaced by the Ruidoso Osos.

One thing is consistant with schedule requests from Pecos League Teams, no one wants Sunday Home Games. In other professional leagues across the country Sunday Games are the best attended games. In the Pecos League this is not the case. Sunday Afternoon Games in the desert conflict with other Stadium committments in Las Cruces. Sunday Games conflict with available staff to work the ballparks in Ruidoso, Roswell and Alamogordo. In Alpine attendence has been very bad both in 2009-2010 seasons on Sundays.
The heat of the desert in mid day makes things tough.

Exhibition Games-The Pecos League is currently putting two exhibition games in Bisbee Arizona and Del Rio Texas. The Pecos League will play against the Bisbee Copperkings the Acuna Athleticos.

Neutral Site Games-The Pecos League is going to take advantage of the Carlsbad Bats 15 home games. Carlsbad will play a series against Alpine in Abilene Texas at Walt Driggers Field.
Carlsbad will play Alpine in Pueblo Colorado and possibly in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Clovis New Mexico. Truth or Consequences will host a game between the Las Cruces Vaqueros and the Ruidoso Osos. Odessa Texas will host a series between the Ruidoso Osos and the Alpine Cowboys. Silver City is in the running for a neutral site game or an exhibition game between the Bisbee Copperkings.
The league's most popular request has been to get a game in Carlsbad New Mexico. However at this time there is not a facility available to host games. The only ballpark in town is the high school park which is in use by the high school program in the Summer.

Roswell Invaders Uniforms are out of this world

Roswell Invaders Uniforms are out of this world.
When the Roswell Invaders team was announced in August 2010 the team colors were originally Black and Royal Blue a very modern traditional baseball look. The local Roswell Community quickly informed the leaders of the Invaders there needed to be a change. The unofficial/official colors of Roswell were lime green and navy due to Roswell being the UFO Capital of the world. So with the exception of the Seattle Sounders MLS Team and the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football the Invaders will be the only team to take the field wearing lime green. The Roswell Invaders will don Navy Jerseys with Lime Green Pants and Pin Stripe Pants Grey with Navy Pins. The Invaders will also don Lime Green Jerseys with White Pants. And possibly once during the season the Invaders will go Lime on Lime...The Invaders will wear Navy Hats.

It's not UTEP/NMSU but it might be the next best thing for Las Cruces Fans. The El Paso Diablos invited the Las Cruces Vaqueros for two spring training game on May 8 in Cohen Stadium in El Paso. The Vaqueros salary structure is 1/4 of the Diablos but the game will still be competitive in 2010 the Vaqueros played the San Angelo Colts to a 1 run game in both ends of a doubleheader. For El Paso who opens with the Kansas City T-Bones on May 12th it will be about finding the best available local opponent that they can find. The Diablos have historically scrimmaged El Paso Community College due to lack of options. The Diablos are in process of building a very solid team behind new manager Jorge Alvarez. Fans are encouraged to wear powder blue in support of the Vaqueros.

New Mexico Ballparks under construction

All 4 of the Pecos League New Mexico Ballparks are facing major seating changes as the season begins to approach.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros have the biggest change with their 1960's racetrack grandstand being no longer structural sound for spectators, the Vaqueros and the three Las Cruces High Schools will be forced to have limited home plate seating. The City of Las Cruces is bringing in seating along the right field and left field lines

The White Sands Pupfish Griggs Ballpark continues to progress nicely. Grass will be planted in the next several weeks and the outfield fence is close to being installed. Griggs got a complete surface facelift.

The Eastern New Mexico Fairgrounds Ballpark is getting upgraded VIP Seating behind homeplate and the surface area is getting ready for Roswell High Schools games this Spring.

Whites Mountain Park in Ruidoso currently has a backstop that is 60 feet from homeplate, plans are to move the backstop in and give the spectators a more captive audience.

Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs rolls out Fantasy Baseball

http://fantasy.pecosleague.com
The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs completed its implementation of Fantasy Baseball. The Pecos League is the only known league outside of MLB to offer Fantasy Baseball and it will offer a prize to its winner. The prize will most likely be in the form of a vacation or a car. The prize will be announced by a sponsor before the start of the season. Currently players that are signed to spring training invites will be shown when users login. Once the season starts Fantasy Baseball Users will quickly learn who is hot and who is not. Users can change their lineups before each series and all players are available to all users unlike more advanced mlb versions. But the scores count and you can still go head to head with your friends. Despite not knowing players it will be obvious that pitchers will have a huge disadvantage in Ruidoso with all daytime games and 7100 foot elevation, possibly the highest of any baseball field in US.

Pro Baseball heads up the mountains into the Village in 2011

The Village of Ruidoso appears to be the final puzzle piece for the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs for 2011. Nestled in between Roswell and Alamogordo, Ruidoso is mainly a tourist attraction. However a joint effort between the Chamber of Commerce, Parks and Rec Department and Pecos League will bring Pro Baseball to the Village for 2011. The name of the team will be The Ruidoso Osos. The team was named by Debbie Jo Almager. The Osos take the place of Clovis Pioneers who have spiraled downwards since John Harris left for the Amarillo Sox Head Job. The Pecos League was unable to rework a stadium lease after losing Mike Harris Field..."Another cost saving move without alot of time left" says Andrew Dunn commisioner of Pecos League. Ruidoso saves major mileage and is the most popular destination in the state of New Mexico. Beware of the Osos in the Summer of 2011

Clovis Pioneers fan Eric Smith said "It was the best logo by far, it had the pioneer man, and the CP interlocked logo will go perfect." Clovis will wear black hats with interlocked CP in white/purple/orange. White Jerseys and Orange Jerseys as their alternate. "We need to be different everything in Clovis is purple, we need purple in the uniforms but another color gives the Pioneers their own identity." The Clovis Wildcats are purple and white and Bell Park is completely decked out in Purple..
Head Coach Chris Paterson of the Roswell Invaders and Head Coach John Harris of the Clovis Pioneers will participate as instructors in the 2011 California Winter League. The California Winter League begins January 18th and will last approximately one month. It is a developmental Winter League and many players sign independent league contracts out of the California Winter League.

It is hosted by Andrew Starkey of the Palm Springs Power. Both Coaches will have their eyes open for players for 2011 season especially Harris who has alot of slots to fill on his roster.

The Pecos League will have several players playing in the league to get ready for the 2011 season.

Pecos League will go with 6

-Houston, Tx The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs will go with 6 teams for the 2011 season. After months of proposals, meetings and visits to numerous cities six teams is best. The level of play will also increase do to fewer number of jobs.

The two final teams had different issues and the Pecos League will look to lay a solid foundation in the 2011 season.

The Bisbee Copperkings owner was uncomfortable with the economy and wants to wait until 2012 to enter the Copperkings. He wanted to play majority of games at home.

The Del Rio Aviators were evicted from their stadium due to Babe Ruth Baseball protesting to the city after their team was announced

The Pecos League received offers to go to 12 other cities, none made sense for the 2011 season.

Clovis coach John Harris says "6 teams will have stronger competition and a better overall league"

White Sands Coach Keith Essary says "No one wanted to drive to Del Rio anyways"

Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn says "Warren Ballpark in Bisbee would have been a gem for the Pecos League and fit perfectly. Dealing with regulations of state of Arizona would have been a hassle. The Arizona economy is uncertain and small Bisbee population would have made things questionable. Del Rio is a case of Youth vs Pro Team, and Youth wins every time. The support for baseball is in Del Rio."
An Additional Two Travel Teams would have added jobs but depleted the talent pool and hurt the overall complexion of the league. Having all of the teams close together helps keep our costs down in a very tight New Mexico Economy.

Alpine Cowboys Mission State and new Logo/Uniforms

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is excited about the Big Bend Cowboys 2011 season. The Cowboys will wear Red Pin Stripes with 06 Kokernot Logo in Red, below is the mission statement released by Bob Ward of the Cowboys.

The Big Bend of Texas is rich in baseball heritage. Early pictures show a baseball field surrounded by wagons over a hundred years ago in Alpine.
Herbert Kokernot, Jr. built a fabulous field in 1947 for his Alpine Cowboys team as a replica of Wrigley Field. The field and many famous players who appeared there have been chronicled in books, national magazines, newspapers, and even "Baseball Times" in Japan. A semi-pro team, the Alpine Cowboys played here from 1947-1961.

An effort to re-introduce professional baseball at Kokernot Field in 2009 marked the first professional baseball played at Kokernot Field in 48 years. The 2009 season heart-stirring but financially unsustainable with its for profit model. It did, however, create regional interest in re-invigorating the unique baseball heritage belonging to the Big Bend.

The Big Bend Region is about 20,000 square miles in area with a total population of around 20,000; it contines a handful of small towns (Alpine at 6,500 inhabitants, is the largest). The economy is weak and disjointed by the distances between the towns. community sports are one of the few unifying dynamics of the region. Tourism is at the heart of the regional economy.

Local business, sports, school and community leaders have decided to build our baseball heritage, weaving it into the fabric of life throughout the region as a non-profit community and tourism development tool. Big Bend Community Baseball and Softball (BBCBS) is the result: a collaboration including the people of all ages, with multiple ethnicities and varying incomes, united by the sports of baseball and softball.

Regional corporate sponsors are needed to help fund our non-profit organization. The Alpine Cowboys staff will have only expense allowances, as will managers, coaches and trainers for the Alpine Cowboys team. Volunteers will do promotions, run concessions and clean up the facilites. A paid general manager is necessary as funds become available.

The Alpine Cowboy team players receive an opportunity to compete publicly, a venue to build stats that reflect their skills. Their goal is to get the attention of pro scouts and get an opportunity to be drafted to major league organizations. They will be provided housing by host families and a small stipend. A new regional minor league entitity, The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs welcomes the Alpine Cowboys as an independent team.

Del Rio Aviators lose battle to Babe Ruth Baseball

As reported by Brian Argabright The Del Rio City Council Parks and Rec held a special hearing on Tuesday November 30 to come to a stadium usage agreement between Babe Ruth Baseball League and the Del Rio Aviators of the Pecos League. Terms were agreed for the months of May and June but Babe Ruth would not allow the Pro team to play in the month of July. This move would not allow the Aviators to play in the Pecos League. Ron Wrob plans to have a special session appeal on Thursday December 2, 2010.
The Pecos League has mixed feelings on this team.
League owner Andrew Dunn stated "I feel Del Rio was on the right track to be one of the pillars of the Pecos League, by playing in 2011 they would have paved the way for 2nd stadium in Del Rio. Alot of people questioned why the Pecos League would consider Del Rio, but the support was great" Other managers in Pecos League are relieved to hear Del Rio most likely won't be in Pecos League due to insufficiant outfield dimensions and extending travel times double of every of city. "All 4 New Mexico Managers agreed that Del Rio is not in our footprint". The Pecos League would like to thank Al Arreola Jr, Brian Argabright, Donna Langford and Ron Wrob for their efforts.

Pecos League Shuffle Continues

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball continues to have an open shuffle on final cities for 2011 season. In the week of Dec 10th Pecos League officials are scheduled to meet with Eagle Pass, Carlsbad, Odessa, Bisbee and Del Rio about possiblity of scheduling games/putting teams in their cities for 2011 season..

Del Rio Texas had joined the league and hired an operational staff before Babe Ruth Baseball 13-17 year olds protested the Aviators taking field slots away from their youth program. This move could destroy the four month project by Al Arreola Jr, Ron Wrob and Andrew Dunn of putting a professional team in Del Rio.

Many have questioned the Pecos League for wanting to put in team in Del Rio from the beginning because of stadium issues and the distance from other cities. Del Rio will hold a meeting Tuesday Night November 30 to determine the fate of the team. Should Del Rio opt out of the Pecos League this would open up opportunity for other cities to bring baseball to their town.
