6/24/2011-The Carlsbad Bats started the season 0-24 under manager John Aber. The New York State League dismissed Aber before the 2nd Alpine Series. Starting Catcher Ryan Powell was named manager and promised to improve the teams situation. Since then the Bats have taken the field with a storm. Despite being swept in their only home series in Carlsbad the Bats have played .500 ball splitting series in Alpine against a solid Alpine team and taking the first two games of the Las Cruces Series against previously undefeated Vaqueros. "These guys are starting to hit, they are playing like it is their last day because it might be." says Las Cruces Vaqueros General Manager Miguel Salcedo

Carlsbad is also losing players who are getting called up the New York State League's Federals Team in the Can-AM League. Powell released several players and turned around the attitude in Carlsbad. "The league is tougher than people believed" says former Carlsbad shortstop Arturo Ledesma who got called up to the Can-Am League. Carlsbad will continue to play as a travel team with hopes of landing in Carlsbad in 2012 season. The Bats have completely rebuilt their lineup in the last week.
