New York State League will operate Taos Blizzard
11/25/2012 The New York State League will operate the Taos Blizzard for the 2013 season. The New York State League, proud affiliate of the Can-Am League, is pleased to announced its plans for its 2013 season in Taos New Mexico. Every major American independent league and many overseas leagues (Germany, Sweden, Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Australia among them) had NYSL players on their rosters last season.

The Blizzard will play a limited amount of home games in their inaugural season. Jay Acton will serve as the team's general manager and expects the team to make the playoffs despite having 55 road games. The New York State League operated the Carlsbad Bats in 2011 and the team only played 3 games in Carlsbad. The Bats did not have a payroll for their team, the Blizzard players will have same payroll as all teams in the Pecos League. The Bats lost their first 24 games but were immediately competitive when there was a change in managers. The Bats were competitive in every game in the second half of the season. In 2011 Acton also was concurrently operating his primary team, the New York Federals in the Can-Am League. Acton is ready to not only be competitive but make the playoffs in a ten team Pecos League.

The Blizzard have begun signing players but won't announce their roster until April 15th. Acton has been involved with Independent Baseball for over 20 years and is excited to have the challange of the Blizzard.

Acton's request was very simple. Taos will bat last in 1/2 of their games no matter home or road. So for example the Blizzard play at Alpine 8 times, they will be the home team 4 of the games even though all of the games are in Alpine. The Blizzard host the first game of the Pecos League Season in Taos against Santa Fe on May 14th.
