9/4/2017-The Salina Stockade have completed their 2017 season. The Stockade finished with a record of 18-82 and completed the season as the leagues travel team. The Stockade played every team in the American Association and went to every stadium in the league except Fargo and Winnipeg.

The Salina Stockade got much better in the 2nd half of the season when they began to call up players from the 2017 Pecos League Season. The Stockade went 12-38 in the 2nd half of the season after going 6-44 in the first half of the season. The Stockade lost 11 games by 1 run.

The Salina Stockade used a total of 52 players over the course of the season. 43 of the players were from the Pecos League and only 12 of those 43 players had any professional experience outside of the Pecos League.

Over the course of the season, The Salina Stockade signed players from the following Pecos League Teams: White Sands (4), Roswell (5), Alpine (2), Tucson (6), Trinidad (6), Santa Fe (5), Salina Pecos League (2), Monterey (2), Garden City (2), Bakersfield (1), High Desert (1), California City (1) Connor Bach, Chris Cummins, Tyler Herr, Jesse Baker, Jordan Caillouet, Aaron Olivas, Roche Woodard and Jimmy Heck started and played the entire season with the Stockade.

JD Droddy managed the club until August 1. Jds thoughts on winning in the Association: "To win in this league you must have all three phases of the game to win. You must get a quality start, you must have flawless defense and you must have timely hitting. This will keep you in games. Your bullpen must then perform."

TJ Zarewitz managed the club for the last two weeks of the season. TJ said: "We were comprised of almost all rookies, when you are going against these teams loaded with veteran experienced AA and AAA guys it is very tough. They make no mistakes and they know how to win. This is a tough league."

  • Salina was dead last in runs scored by a longshot. The Stockade only scored 332 runs. Wichita scored 617. Cleburne scored 389 runs.
  • Salina was dead last in team batting average with a .238 batting average. Winnipeg hit .296 as a team for first place.
  • Salina was 9th in home runs with 45. Cleburne only hit 33 home runs while St Paul hit 112.
  • Salina was dead last in ERA with a 6.59 team ERA, Lincoln had a 3.45 ERA
  • Salinas pitchers lead the league with 491 walks, Wichita only walked 228 batters.
  • Salina had the fewest strikeouts by a pitching staff in the league. They struck out 601 batters. Kansas City struck out 897.
  • Salina had the worst fielding percentage in the league despite playing most of its game in the Southern Division on field turf. They had a .969 fielding percentage and made 105 errors. Only Winnipeg made more errors (109), but the Goldeyes play almost all their games on natural grass in the Northern Division.
The Salina Stockade players and staff were proud to serve as the American Association Travel Team in the 2017 season.
