3/8/2012-The Pecos Spring League opened up with its first game on 3/7/2012 as the Houston Apollos beat the Coastal Kingfish 5-3 at Christy Park in South Houston. For the Kingfish, Jeremiah Steinert went 5 strong innings giving up 3 runs in his first start of the season. Kevin Carter took the loss as he pitched 2/3 of an inning walking 2 and allowing 2 runs. Mike Mihalco pitched 1/3 an inning allowing a hit. The Kingfish only got two hits, Taylor Collins singled as well.

For the Apollos, Mike Wilson (Edinburg Roadrunners) lead the way. The eight year pro started the game and pitched 5 innings striking out 5 batters, walking three and allowing one run. Wilson also hit a two run homer that gave the Apollos the lead. Larry (LROD) Rodriguez was recently traded from White Sands the El Paso Diablos pitched one inning and allowed two runs without giving up a hit. As a hitter Larry was key reaching base three times and scoring a run. Donald Leonard (Milwaukee) got the huge pinch hit single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th to win the game for the Apollos. David Trahan (Southern Maryland Atlantic League) threw a scoreless top of the 7th. Trahan also got a key infield hit to help the Apollos. The Kingfish are back in action 3/8/2012 against the Texas Coyote.
