The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 3-2 in Game 1 of the First Round of the Pacific Division Playoffs.
This game served as the final home game for the Amberjacks for the 2019 season as the series will shift to Bakersfield on Monday Night.
The Game was dead even through 8 innings with the game tied at 2-2. Each team had a two run homer and six hits.
Coleman Poje put the Amberjacks on the board first with a two run homer in the 5th scoring Morgan Blatnik.
Nathan Etheridge responded for the Amberjacks in the 6th with a two run homer of his own scoring Nyles Nygaard.
Both Home Runs were almost in identical parts of right center field the only part of the ballpark where the ball travels at Sollectio Park.
On the mound for the Train Robbers it was Edilson Alvarez pitched 8 innings for the Robbers with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks. He got out of jams in every inning.
Spencer Backstrom pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.
For the Amberjacks it was Nick Grim pitched 7 inning with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk. He left with the score tied at 2-2.
Jarett Viega pitched 1-1/3 inning getting the loss for Monterey.
Ulysses Ramos pitched 2/3 of an inning in the 9th inning.
In the 9th inning Karlos Joseph lead off with a walk for the Train Robbers. He was removed for pinch runner Reinaldo Valdez who stole 2nd base and then stole 3rd base.
Reinaldo Valdez scored on Evan Hirschbaum Fielders Choice ground ball hit at the Shortstop Steven Longo. Longo made a great play to throw out Reinaldo Valdez at the plate but
the ball popped loose from Jerry Chavairra on Reinaldo Valdez's aggressive slide.
The Monterey Amberjacks had their best year ever and would like the thank their fans and the city of Monterey as they completed their third season in Monterey. The rest of the Amberjacks games will be on the road in the playoffs.
