Garden City Wind Outlast Alpine Cowboys 16-15

July 24 2018 The Garden City Wind held off the Alpine Cowboys 16-15 in a high-scoring game at Clint Lightner. Garden City collected 18 hits and overcame five errors to secure the one-run victory, while Alpine finished with 10 hits and also committed five errors.

Garden City built its lead with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth before adding four in the eighth. Alpine answered with three runs in the sixth, three in the seventh, five in the eighth and three in the ninth, but the Cowboys could not complete the comeback. The Wind also scored twice in the ninth to preserve the lead.

Ryan Whitt went 3-for-5 with four runs scored for Garden City, while Jonathan Tasis and Eddy Milian each collected three hits. Blake Butcher added two hits and three RBI, and Dave Gallagher had two hits, two RBI and a home run. Garden City also received home runs from Butcher and Gallagher.

Alpine’s Seth Douglas scored three runs and reached base five times with two hits and three walks. Matt Traylor went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while Grant Myers scored four runs and drove in three. J. Russo also contributed three RBI, and Ellington Hopkins had two hits and two RBI.

Andrew Aikins earned the win for Garden City after allowing three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. M. Mayberry worked six innings and allowed four runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Matt Terrones took the loss for Alpine after pitching 0.2 innings, allowing two runs and one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
