May 25 2012 The White Sands Pupfish erupted for a 21-6 victory over the Santa Fe Fuego at Fort Marcy Park. White Sands collected 19 hits and broke open the game with a 14-run sixth inning after building a 3-1 lead through five frames. The Pupfish added two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to complete the rout.
Virgil Chavira led White Sands with three hits and five RBI. Juan Martinez went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs, while Henry Gonzalez Jr. added three hits, four runs and two RBI. Jordan Stouffer drove in three runs, and Brian Loard and Aven Fletcher each had three hits and two runs. White Sands hit six home runs, with Martinez and Stouffer each homering twice and Gonzalez Jr. John Couch Fletcher and Chavira also going deep.
Santa Fe totaled 16 hits, including four from Nick Muller, who hit a home run and drove in three runs. Kieran Bradford and Scottie Mulhearn had two and three hits respectively, but the Fuego managed only one run in the fourth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Trenton Lee earned the win for White Sands after allowing one run on 10 hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked three. Isaac Hernandez took the loss for Santa Fe, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings while striking out two and walking two. White Sands finished with 21 runs on 19 hits while Santa Fe scored six runs on 16 hits.
