5/28/2025-Tucson defeated Santa Fe 18 to 7 in the opening game of the 2025 Pecos League season for both teams. Tucson took the lead early when baseman Dahiandy Johnson hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning. Fuego center fielder Jesús Chávez countered with a two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning but being one run behind was as close as the home team ever got to the visitors.

Four walks by Fuego starting pitcher Willian Suárez and a double by Saguaro center fielder Anthony Manisero put four runs on the board in the second inning and Tucson never looked back, scoring in seven of the last eight innings. Manisero cleared the fences in a 5-run Saguaro fifth inning, after which the score was 14 to 2. Right fielder Mike Whalen and catcher Cedric Ronauld chipped in solo shots for the victors.

Tucson starter Derrick Cabrera got the win, allowing just 2 earned runs in six and a third innings. The Fuego picked up a couple of runs in the eight off the Saguaro bullpen and Jesús Chávez hit another two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little, too late.
