July 31 2019 The California City Whiptails defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 9-7 after both teams collected 11 hits. California City scored four runs in the first inning and added two in the third to take an early lead. The Whiptails also scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh, while High Desert answered with three runs in the first, two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh.
R. Surgimoto led California City with two home runs and four RBI, while Jose Tejeda added a home run and two RBI. Marcos Corrales had three hits and scored once, and Cody Castro finished with two hits and two runs. High Desert received two hits and three RBI from Dillon Fahr, who hit a home run, while B. Speas and Slayton Vaughan also homered. Anthony Ward, Speas, Slayton Vaughan and Hector Morales each had two hits for the Yardbirds.
Trevor Wick earned the win for California City after allowing 10 hits and seven runs in six innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. Jamal Washington recorded the save by throwing three scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out five and walking two. Harry Ferguson took the loss for High Desert after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in six innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.
