Tucson Saguaros Defeat Garden City Wind 9-4
GARDEN CITY, Kansas - Gavy Perez-Torres hit a three-run home run, Demitrius DiMatteo threw a complete game, and the Tucson Saguaros defeated the Garden City Wind 9-4 on August 1, 2026, at Clint Lightner Field.
Tucson opened the scoring in the second inning when Connor Kiefer grounded out to bring home Angel Faras. Garden City answered with three runs in the bottom half. Rob Morosetti tied the game with an RBI single, Mason DeVerna added a sacrifice fly, and Darius Freeman singled home Morosetti to give the Wind a 3-1 lead.
The Saguaros quickly regained control in the third. Sloan Laird was hit by a pitch, Trent Mallonee singled, and Perez-Torres followed with a three-run home run that put Tucson ahead 4-3.
Tucson extended its lead in the fourth when Cedric Reynaud doubled home Mallonee. The Saguaros added two more runs in the sixth on a Diego Zuniga single that scored Kiefer and Perez-Torres, increasing the advantage to 7-3.
Garden City scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Aidan Grabowski grounded out to bring home Connor Huzicka. Tucson added two insurance runs in the ninth. Kiefer singled home Will Thomas, and Mallonee lifted a sacrifice fly that scored DiMatteo.
DiMatteo handled the rest on the mound, completing all nine innings. He allowed four runs on nine hits, walked four, and struck out two while throwing 123 pitches.
Perez-Torres finished 2-for-6 with the three-run homer, two runs scored, and three RBI. Kiefer drove in two runs, Zuniga went 2-for-5 with two RBI, and Mallonee collected two hits, scored twice, and drove in a pair. Reynaud, Faras, Thomas, and DiMatteo also finished with two or more hits as Tucson totaled 16.
Freeman led Garden City by going 3-for-4 with an RBI, a walk, and three stolen bases. Morosetti went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Huzicka added two hits and scored twice.
